    The Supreme Court Wednesday upheld the foreign arbitration tribunal award in favour of Vedanta Ltd (formerly Cairn India Ltd) and Videocon Industries Ltd to recover USD 476 million from the government, instead of USD 198 million capped by it, for developing Ravva oil and gas fields. In a set back to the Centre, the top court rejected its appeal against the February 19 order of the Delhi High Court saying that it has not made out a case of violation of procedural due process in the conduct of the arbitral proceedings.

"Tata Projects Limited has won the contract to build a new parliament building at a cost of Rs 861.9 crore," an official said, adding the project cost also includes maintenance works.

The bill, which comes in the backdrop of the PMC Bank scam, seeks to strengthen cooperative banks by increasing their professionalism, enabling access to capital, improving governance and ensuring sound banking through the RBI.

    India's trade deficit narrows to $6.77 billion in August, exports fall 12.66%

    Contracting for the sixth straight month, India's exports slipped 12.66 per cent to USD 22.7 billion in August, on account of decline in the shipments of petroleum, leather, engineering goods and gems and jewellery items, according to the government data released on Tuesday. The country's imports too declined 26 per cent to USD 29.47 billion in August, leaving a trade deficit of USD 6.77 billion, compared to a shortfall of USD 13.86 billion in the same month last year, as per the data.

Khalid, who was arrested on Sunday night, was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat through video conferencing and was remanded for custodial interrogation till September 24.

    August CPI inflation softens marginally to 6.69% on lower food prices

    Retail inflation softened slightly to 6.69 per cent in August as price rise in some food items eased, though wholesale inflation inched up to a five-month high of 0.16 per cent on costlier manufactured goods, official data showed on Monday. The consumer price index (CPI) based retail inflation was at 6.73 per cent in July, which has been revised downwards from the earlier estimate of 6.93 per cent, as per data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
