Former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has advised England players for participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to improve their Test side. It is to be noted that, Three lions faced a humiliating 4-0 Ashes series loss against Australia Down Under, which resulted in the departure of head coach Chris Silverwood, batting coach Graham Thorpe and managing director Ashley Giles.
Arthur, who joined English county Derbyshire as head of cricket after stepping down as Sri Lanka coach late last year, said county cricket is not to be blamed for England’s poor performance in Tests in recent years.
Strict bio-bubble protocols set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) amid the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) are taking a heavy toll on the players involved in the tournament. As a result, Islamabad United’s Alex Hales and Quetta Gladiators Ben Duckett have already pulled out of the remaining part of the tournament.
Not only foreign players, but several Pakistani players have also expressed their disappointment as they are confined to the hotel and stadium and families are also not allowed to stay with them. Players have asked the managing committee to provide some more facilities in an open-air environment.
Australia will be touring Pakistan for an all-format bilateral series starting March four and the Aussies would be visiting the neighboring country for the first time since the 1998/99 season. The visitors announced their squad for the three-match Test series last week with pacer Pat Cummins leading them from the front and batting mainstay Steve Smith appointed as his deputy. Meanwhile, an injury concern has put the current top-ranked Test side in a spot of bother just a couple of weeks prior to the opening Test.

But the all-rounder has brushed off the speculations. Australia, on the contrary, haven’t done much wrong in the series. The hosts will be looking to kick off 2022 with another resounding showing. It’s pertinent to note that England have won 22 out of 56 Tests in Sydney with seven games ending in draws.
Australia have roped in Usman Khawaja in place of Travis Head, who is currently in isolating in Melbourne after testing positive for COVID-19. Khawaja hasn’t played a Test since the 2019 Ashes. Scott Boland has also retained his spot after becoming the Player of the Match in the MCG Test. Josh Hazlewood is yet to attain full fitness and hence, couldn’t make the cut for the Sydney Test.

The former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has hit back at the interim head coach of Pakistan Abdul Razzaq for his recent comments on the Indian cricket team. Kaneria dismissed the comments made by Razzaq and said that there is in fact no comparison between India and called his statements as ‘nonsense’. The former spinner expressed that he doesn’t feel Pakistan’s team is good enough and also highlighted that it was difficult to put up a squad together. He also mentioned about the series loss earlier this year in England, when most of the newcomers played in the opposition.
“Pakistan doesn’t have stability in their bating and bowling. Razzaq says that dismiss Kohli and Rohit and it will be easy to catch this Indian team. Nonsense, how will you catch this Indian team? There are issues in forming the Pakistan team itself. Where is your batting who will win your matches? England’s B team defeated us. The selection looks in shambles, it’s a very poor statement to make,” Kaneria said on his Youtube channel.
“It was not expected from an international-level cricketer whose stature is so high in Pakistan. India has the upper hand over Pakistan. India has been performing well in every department. They have players like Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, etc. How will you get them out?” added Kaneria.
Talismanic England all-rounder Ben Stokes has yet again undergone surgery on his broken finger. After undergoing surgery four months before, this is the second instance of surgery on his injured finger. The recent surgery will also likely rule him out of The Ashes series, which is scheduled to begin Down Under on December 8.
