वाराणसी :मान्यता और परम्परा के अनुसार रंगभरी एकादशी पर काशी पुराधिपति बाबा विश्वनाथ जगत जननी गौरा पार्वती, पुत्र गणेश की विदाई कराने यहां काशी पधारते हैं। तब तीनों लोक से देवता,राजा रजवाड़े विभिन्न स्वरूप में उनके स्वागत सत्कार को यहां आते हैं।
इस समारोह में भाग लेने से वंचित भोले के प्रिय भूत-पिशाच, दृश्य-अदृश्य आत्माएं पलक पावंड़े बिछाये चराचर जगत के स्वामी के इंतजार में रहती है। बाबा भी अपने प्रिय भक्तों के भाव को समझ कर रंगभरी एकादशी गौने के दुसरे दिन महाश्मशान पर पहुंचकर होली खेलते पहुंचते हैं। वहां चिता की भस्म से होली होती है। काशी में पौराणिक मान्यता हैं कि इस दौरान किसी न किसी रूप में महादेव महाश्मसान पर उपस्थित रहते हैं।
