INC Primaries: Taking Indian Democracy to the next level
The Indian National Congress has consistently worked towards deepening and expanding Indian democracy. Under INC Primaries, the Congress worker who toils for the party on the ground day in and day out, will have a say in choosing the candidate from his area. The process makes the selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections much more transparent and participatory.
Primaries are one of the many ways by which a political party can decide its candidate for an upcoming election. It is a system which allows for a broader participation of party supporters in deciding who should be a candidate from their constituency from that party. A representative cross-section of party workers, leaders and other influencers, satisfying certain criteria, from these constituencies will decide the Congress candidate from their constituency by participating in a simple voting process.
To ensure transparency, the process will take place under the supervision of former Election Commissioners. As Dr. Sunil Panwar, a Youth Congress worker succinctly puts it, "Respect for equality, promotion of merit and a truly democratic philosophy, this are the principles with which the Congress is moving forward".

Panchayati Raj Has Expanded Democracy in India: Rahul Gandhi
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi described Panchayati Raj as the third pillar of Indian democracy during his speech at the All India Congress Committee Session at Delhi's Talkatora Stadium on January 17, 2014.
"We constructed and reinforced the third pillar of government -- Panchayati Raj. I don't see Mani Shankar ji here...there...a gentleman who fights for this every day of his life. I would like you to applaud him as well," he said.
"This was Rajiv Gandhi ji's dream that let us give true power to the people of this country.
