7 Rules Should Know Before Choosing Optional Paper | UPSC Preparation Strategy | Formula UPSC
The decision of selection of the IAS Mains Optional is an age old dilemma for Civil Services aspirants.The UPSC mains (written) examination consists of nine papers, two qualifying papers and seven papers counted for ranking. As per the latest syllabus, the number of optional subjects to be selected is reduced to one, though the weightage of the optional paper is only 500 marks out of 2000 marks. As per Civil services mains new pattern general studies papers consisting 1000 marks and Optional paper consists of two papers of 250 marks each.
