J&K Academy of Arts Culture and Language Kargil organized Kargil Losar Festival at Dak Banglow Wakha Mulbekh. The Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Mohammad Hussain was the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner Kargil Haji Gulzar Hussain was the guest of honour. Thousands of people from all over Kargil reached Wakha Mulbekh to celebrate the day which is considered as one of the main event to revive the culture. During the programme Ranthag Theater Group presented a street play on electricity theft and other social evils. Its pertinent to mention here that Losar is the New Year festival celebrated according to Tibeti and Ladakhi Calendar which is celebrated all over Gilgit Baltistan, Ladakh and Tibet.Watch Losar celebrations conclude at Kargil With HD Quality

    Due to closure of traffic at Nigulsari on Rampur-Kinnaur NH, movement of pea and apple vehicles continues via Kaza Losar Koksar. From 8th to 13th September, 113 vehicles have passed from Kinnaur to Losar check post. This included 9 pickups and 104 trucks. At the same time, 71 vehicles of Matar have also passed, which include 33 pick-ups and 38 trucks. According to SDM Harsh Amarendra Negi, petrol and diesel are available in sufficient quantity in Kaza.

    During the 1999 Kargil war, the Indian Army had faced immense difficulty in recapturing its posts located at several high-altitude peaks in the J&K district after an infiltration took place from the other side of the border or Pakistan. One reason for this was the lack of institutionalised training in mountain warfare in the region. The situation, however, changed in 2000 when the Kargil Battle School was opened for providing pre-induction training to soldiers, who are deployed in the heights along the Line of Control (LoC) in this region.
