Born Lhamo Dondrub, he was officially recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama on 17 November 1950 when he was just 15. His Holiness was taken to Lhasa's Potala Palace in 1940 where he began his monastic education as well as training. By 1950, when Tibet was under the influence of Chinese military, His Holiness was 16 and was called upon to be the head of state of the Tibetan people.

    ""Right from the beginning, I have been against the making of Isolation"", is what Dalai Lama has an answer on what help he would like from the British Government for the situation of the present time. The lama says that it is just not acceptable to create wrong rumors about a friend in a friendly manner in relation to the present circumstances faced by the nation of China.

    Born Lhamo Dondrub, he was officially recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama on 17 November 1950 when he was just 15. His Holiness was taken to Lhasa's Potala Palace in 1940 where he began his monastic education as well as training. By 1950, when Tibet was under the influence of Chinese military, His Holiness was 16 and was called upon to be the head of state of the Tibetan people.

    In 1959, during the Tibetan uprising, the Dalai Lama fled to India along with his small escort and resided in Dharamshala later on. He met with the then Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, who agreed to provide shelter to the Tibetan refugees. According to official records, only about 60 Gyatso monks had fled along with Dalai Lama to India. Today, the monastic community of India is known to have grown to a population of about 500 monks.

    A young man named by China as the second-highest figure in Tibetan Buddhism, but reviled as a fake by many Tibetans, has begun an important Buddhist rite on Thursday, the first time in 50 years it has happened in Tibet. Although officially atheist, China selected Gyaltsen Norbu as the 11th Panchen Lama in 1995 in a drive to win the hearts and minds of Tibetans.
    Tibet's current spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, had announced his own choice of a six-year-old boy, but he was taken away by authorities and has since vanished from public view. According to official Xinhua news agency about 50,000 Buddhists are expected to attend the ritual.

    President Barack Obama held low-key talks with the Dalai Lama on Friday, prompting the Chinese government to ask why the White House ignored Beijing's warnings that the meeting with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader would damage ties.
    China's vice foreign minister, Zhang Yesui, summoned Daniel Kritenbrink, charge d'affaires of the U.S. embassy in China, on Friday night to condemn the meeting as interference in China's internal affairs, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
    China calls the Dalai Lama, who fled to India after a failed uprising in 1959, a "wolf in sheep's clothing" who seeks to use violent methods to establish an independent Tibet. The Dalai Lama says he only wants genuine autonomy for Tibet and denies advocating violence.
    Obama's private meeting with the Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, lasted for about an hour. Obama reaffirmed his support for Tibet's unique religious, cultural and linguistic traditions and human rights for Tibetans, the White House said.
    Obama said he did not support Tibetan independence from China and the Dalai Lama said he was not seeking it, the White House said in a statement.
    The White House sidestepped questions about whether it was worried about the reaction from China.
    "We are committed to a constructive relationship with China in which we work together to solve regional and global problems," White House spokesman Jay Carney told a

Steve has been working with crocodiles from the age of 9 under his father's guidance. He rose to fame due to his hit Television Show - 'The Crocodile Hunter' which aired on Australia TV in 1996, which he co-hosted with his wife Lyn Irwin. The Show was also picked up by popular channels like Discovery Network and Animal Planet. While filming for the documentary- 'Ocean's Deadliest', in 1996, Steve was stung by a stingray and was later declared dead due to the injury sustained. Many fans dropped flowers at the Australian Zoo to show tribute to the crocodile hunter. His daughter, Bindi, carried out the family's legacy by hosting her own wildlife documentary show called Bindi The Junge Girl.
