Franz Beckenbauer began his club career with Bayern in Regional League South (Regionalliga Süd) and played his first winning match to get the team promoted into the newly formed national league, Bundesliga. He was the backbone and star player of his new German league and led them to several successful matches including the German Cup of 1966–67 and the Cup Winners' Cup of 1967. For the 1968 - 69 season, the soccer legend was selected as the team captain that he rewarded back by winning their first league title.

As a young player, “The Emperor” idolised Fritz Walter, the 1954 FIFA World Cup winner along with the German sports club, 1860 Munich and once also said, “It was always my dream to play for them”. However, Beckenbauer joined the Bayern Munich youth team instead of his favourite 1860 Munich due to information about SC Munich '06 club lacking the finance to run its youth sides. When Franz turned 18 in the year 1963, he fell into a controversy of his then girlfriend getting pregnant and the soccer player having had no intentions of marrying her leading him to ban from the West German national youth team by the DFB.
