"Octomom" Nadya Suleman has filed for bankruptcy, saying in a court filing that she has as much as $1 million in debt.
Suleman wants a fresh start and said in a statement that filing for bankruptcy Monday is what's best for her children, according to the Orange County Register ."I have had to make some very difficult decisions this year, and filing Chapter 7 was one of them," Suleman said.The La Habra mother of 14 reports up to $50,000 in assets in federal court filings, which means she owes more than 20 times her net worth.

    The "Octomom's" difficult April ended on Monday with her filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in federal court, according to E! Online. But according to TMZ, she is trying to turn her financial ship around — by signing a deal to star in a movie for a porn company.
    According to court documents, Nadya Suleman says she has less than $50,000 in assets and owes between $500,000 and $1 million to creditors including Amir Haddadin, the owner of her home; Orkin Pest Control; Kaiser Permanete; Verizon Wireless; Sylvan Learning Center; and others.
    Earlier this year, Suleman — who has 14 children, including octuplets born in 2009 — revealed that she was accepting $2,000 per month in food stamps from the state of California.
    Suleman's van was vandalized and she received a death threat during an incident at her California home on April 7. Last week, she was the subject of a child services investigation after her former hairdresser went public with photos that reportedly depicted her home as being filthy. Police subsequently determined that there was nothing unusual going on at the home and that Suleman's kids were safe.

    Nadya Suleman, known to most as Octomom after giving birth to octuplets, has $1 million in debts (and $50,000 in assets) and has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.

    "I have had to make some very difficult decisions this year and filing Chapter 7 was one of them," she tells E! News. "But I have to do what is best for my children (there are 14 of them), and I need a fresh start."

    Listed among those she owes are the California DMV, a Christian school, every utility you can think of, DirecTV and a gym, which she owes $500.

    Among those difficult decisions she has made would be undressing for a spread in U.K.'s Closer magazine for somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000.

    "I have to do what I have to do to take care of my family," she told Anderson Cooper.
    That apparently includes a deal with an adult entertainment company to shoot a video this summer, which a source told TMZ.com is for "a lot more than the $10,000 she made for posing topless."

    Despite dire financial straits, octuplets mother Nadya Suleman said she is still capable of being a good mother and supporting her brood of 14 children.

    In an interview with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show Thursday, the Orange County woman acknowledged that she is accepting food stamps as a temporary measure to make ends meet.

    Suleman, who had vowed not to accept public assistance, said she has been accepting $2,000 a month in food stamps for the past two months. She said she has business ventures in the works to make money, including an online "Octomom TV" project and the release of a horror movie she starred in, "Millenium."

    Suleman's children are presently in the care of friends and nannies while she undergoes a month-long stint in rehab for her Xanax addiction. Gina Bryson says reports Suleman fired her last summer are false as well. She was one of many volunteers who helped care for the fourteen children and she never received a cent for her efforts.
