Rahul Gandhi addressed a Public Rally at Bastar, Chattisgarh on March 31, 2014.
"Congress party works for everyone, for tribals, poor, Dalits and the downtrodden. For us, Hindus and Muslims are equal. We consider everyone equal," he said at a public meeting in Kondagaon district headquarters of Bastar Lok Sabha constituency.
Rahul Gandhi said Congress always focused on empowering tribals, the poor and the downtrodden, while the BJP had "no heart" for tribals and the poor.
Describing Chhattisgarh as a rich land of poor people, he said the state is bestowed with natural resources but its benefits do not reach the common man.
Attacking BJP over corruption, he said the party had turned a blind eye towards corruption in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
"They say that they are fighting against corruption. Don't they see corruption in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh? Their Karnataka chief minister was jailed due to corruption, while in Gujarat, three ministers went to jail," Rahul Gandhi said.
He said the UPA government's major programmes were based on development of the poor, of which MNREGA is an example under which lakhs of people benefited.

"BJP needs to realize that the Gujarat model will not work in the entire country. Under the BJP-AGP government, Assam grew only at 2 percent, with limited development, but under the Congress, the growth rate has been 13 percent. Every state is different and needs its own model to succeed," he said. "We want to empower you, which is why we have established 6 Autonomous Councils and 18 Development Councils and put power in your hands. Linking women to banks and providing them access to credit would be another priority he said because India cannot be a superpower if it did not empower women who form 50 percent of the population. He assured the youth of the state that in the coming months millions of jobs would be created with the building of the dedicated industrial corridors with road and rail connectivity.

Speaking at a massive public rally Rahul Gandhi said, "Odisha has money, natural resources, forests and water. It is a rich state, but the people are poor. The state government takes your money and gives it to the industrialists. They don't use it for building schools for you, or providing education, health and jobs."
He added that the Congress led UPA government had made special allocation of funds for the welfare of tribal people, but the BJD government has diverted these funds to other things. "The job of the government is to help you. You should have a railway line. The water which should be used for irrigation is diverted for industrial uses," he said.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that while the industry needs resources, it should not come at the cost of farmers and there is a need for balanced development.
Sharing the vision of the Congress Party that seeks to remove poverty from India, he asked the people to join the Congress in this fight. Expressing happiness over the presence of women in the rallies, he assured the women that the Congress Party will make full efforts to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.
