    Exposing the hypocrisy of the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said that the opposition party had no right to talk about corruption as it had failed to take action in the recruitment scam, popularly known as the Vyapam Scandal, in Madhya Pradesh. This, he said, was one among the series of corruption scandals and crony capitalism that has flourished under the BJP regime. "Let me ask you one thing, has the BJP government taken any action in the Vyapam scandal? When will they do it? Their leaders talk about corruption everywhere they go, but under the BJP government, corruption thrives and grows... They did the same in Karnataka," he said at a massive rally at the Khandwa stadium where tens of thousands of people had gathered to listen to their leader. Rahul Gandhi also criticised the so called Gujarat model of development and said that it did not matter whether it was called a 'toffee model or the tea model' because the fact was it benefitted only a select few industrialist friends of the Gujarat government. "Their ideology is that of 'India Shining'. They want to take the money and resources of the people and give it to 2-3 industrialists. They want the poor to remain poor. Their politics is of anger, hatred and making people fight...We say India should be one and that everyone, including the poor and the backward are included in its progress.

    "Nearly 4,000 farmers were forced to commit suicide because of the anti-farmer policy of the BJD government. Under the central government scheme, farmers were supposed to be given bonus but the state government did not implement it," Mrs Gandhi said.

    “As you all know we have no control on the international prices of oil which have gone up from 40 dollars per barrels 10 years ago, to 140 dollars per barrel today. You know that we import 80% of crude oil from which we make petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. We continue to subsidise kerosene which must be done. But we have been compelled and we have no option but to increase the prices of diesel and the cooking gas. In spite of these, UPA government is doing its best not to burden the people with more hardships. As we hold the responsibility as a Government at the Centre, the state government also has some responsibility. I want to ask the BJP government here why have not the government increase the limit of LPG cylinders to a family from 6 to 9. This is what our Congress government has done in the states ruled by us. Why has the Karnataka Government not reduced the VAT on diesel, just like our Congress led governments have done? So it is very easy to criticize others but what about you (the state government), what are you doing to reduce the hardships of your people? It is your (state government’s) responsibility as much as ours” said Sonia Gandhi.

    Mr. Gandhi also cautioned the people against the BJP, which not only plays in the hands of a few industrialists, but is also making fake promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh. "Who beats you up in Maharashtra? BJP and its ally, Shiv Sena. And then they say that they want to help you...The ideology of the BJP is to make people fight among each other, and ensure that only a few industrialists get the benefits of progress. They have nothing to offer to the poor, the farmers, the backward castes and the weaker sections of the society," he said.
