BJP shuts down Nirbhaya crisis centers

The Nirbhaya rape case shook the collective conscience of India. It was as much a shock for the people as it was for the then UPA government. We responded swiftly by setting up the Nirbhaya Fund – to ensure dignity and safety of women. UPA government contributed Rs. 1,000 crore to the Fund.
The BJP, however, saw in that ghastly incident an opportunity to score political points. They called us names and accused us of playing cheap politics. We knew all along they were never serious about ensuring dignity and safety of women. We knew their remarks and statements was only a façade, which would come off sooner or later.
Prime Minister Shri Modi’s office has proved us right. They have scrapped the “One Stop Crisis Centres,” which were set up by the UPA-government in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya case, to provide medical, legal, police and emergency services to women in distress. #SaveNirbhaya
