Briefing media on Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's visit to Sevagram, Wardha, AICC Spokesperson Shobha Oza said, "Today Shri Rahul Gandhi was in Wardha where he held consultation with representatives of local bodies on what should be included in Congress party's manifesto for 2014 Lok Sabha polls."

"Rahul ji was of the opinion that Congress party's manifesto should reflect the voice of every section of society."

"Respected Rahul ji stressed that democracy will be strengthened when there will be a bhagidaari of 50 per cent of women.     Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi having an interaction with young professionals and students in Bengaluru as a part of the consultative process for the Congress Manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

    A rich variety of suggestions for the Congress' Party's Election Manifesto were provided at the nearly 6 hour long consultative session, which was attended by some of India's best young brains. Young Indians from varied backgrounds --- students, professionals,
    innovators, activists, researchers, artists, panchayat representatives --- provided their suggestions to Shri Gandhi and other prominent leaders of the Congress. Every participant, irrespective of his or her background, was able to get his or her voice across and neither language nor disability proved to be a hindrance. For instance, a delegate spoke at length in Tamil about the problems faced by the specially challenged, a female professional stated confidently that women must not be placed under "weaker sections" in the Congress manifesto.

    Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi interacted with women representatives as part of the manifesto consultation process in Bhopal on January 20, 2014.
    Moderating the session on political empowerment of women, Rahul Gandhi stated that the next step would be to provide women reservation in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha. He reiterated that the Congress Party is committed to passing the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. "Our next step towards women's empowerment is the Women's Reservation Bill. We will not let it go," he said.
    Rahul Gandhi was articulating a demand that came up repeatedly during the entire consultation: greater political representation for women. Many participants stated that increasing women's representation in the legislature as well in the higher levels of government will not only help empowering women, it will also improve governance in the country, just as it has done at the Panchayat level.
    "Unless women are empowered, India cannot become a superpower...we don't want to be a superpower in which 50 per cent of the population is treated unjustly," said Rahul Gandhi.     Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi interacted with Panchayati Raj representatives as part of the manifesto consultation process at Sevagram (Wardha) on January 24, 2014.

    "Political parties must include local bodies in their decision making processes," Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, said.

    He said that "we need to deepen democracy by empowering our Pradhans, our MPs and our MLAs". Addressing the large number of Sarpanches and Pradhans gathered for the manifesto consultation process, Rahul Gandhi said "we cannot transform the political system unless we empower the Pradhan".

    The Congress Vice-President said that three things need to change if we are to make India a superpower. "The centre of the problem in India is that less than 200 people decide on every candidate. We should be working towards giving voice to people," he said. Secondly, Rahul Gandhi said "India will only be half strong, half proud, half powerful if we don't empower our women". Thirdly, he said that we need to provide "strength to our youth to take the country forward".
