A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Yadav ji
This is a story of a simple man Yadav Ji who came to Delhi in 1989. His parents passed away when he was very young. Yadav has never been to school despite his wish to study in a school. But with his economic conditions where he had to work from a very young age, education was an impossible dream.
A dream that he is now living through his daughter. His daughter is in the 10th grade. He wants to educate her as much as he can, he wants her to develop some skills which will help her in future.
Yadav is very happy with the Congress led-UPA government. He has been supporting the Congress party for the last 20 years and feels proud that the government has done a very good job in the development of education, metro, etc.

Budi and Juglal never had any means to support themselves ever. No land no oxen, not even water. They are marginal farmers who work as labour on small farms while their children used to play all day here and there. Because of the RTE launched by the UPA led Congress Government they managed to put their children in school. Now they are happy that the children are learning something. They feel education will open the door of opportunities for them.
The Congress led UPA government passed the Right To Education Act (RTE) in 2009 that makes education a Constitutional Right for every citizen. It has spent 8.7 times more than the previous government on Sarva Shiskha Abhiyaan.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Vijay & Anjali Das
The story of Vijay & Anjali Das shows us how political parties actually effect the common man of India. Vijay and Anjali tells us they think well of a political party when it does more work for the poor. Their experience so far has not been good. They have to pay one rupee everyday to the Trinamool party shop committee or else they are beaten and face other problems like electricity being cut off. The fear of being beaten is what keeps them quiet and they pay whatever is asked.
Anjali says with the Trinamool in power, Bengal has become very unsafe for women. Every second day they hear stories of rape which makes her scared to send her daughter out of the house. In a situation like this how will anyone be able to educate their daughters she asks.
It is the work the Congress party does that sets them apart from other political parties. Indira Gandhi did a lot for the poor. A woman who always kept her word. Vijay and Anjali want a party that will not create unrest. A party that will let them eat 2 square meals peacefully. They want Rahul Gandhi to win. They feel it will be better for the country if he comes to power and that's why they would only vote for the Congress.

Yadhuvanshi is from Assanpur in Haryana. He runs a tea stall. His wife passed away and he has a son. Yadhuvanshi is very happy with the work done by Congress-led UPA government in the last 5 years.
He says "The Congress-led UPA government has done everything possible for the development of the country."
He feels the schemes through which they give free food is a big thing. The government has provided all the benefits for schooling of children. In fact, his own son has managed to study and got himself a MBA degree. Yadhuvanshi proudly tells us now his son works in a private company in Gurgaon.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Ashu Vinayak
Ashu Vinayak aspired to be a body builder at the age of ten. A state and university level champion, he runs his own gym. He says good health not only boosts your confidence, it also keeps the youth away from bad habits. He is happy that a percentage of people who come to his gym have the determination to do it right.
Ashu is also a Block President of Youth Congress from Jindyala Guru(Punjab). He joined the Congress because he feels it's a secular party. In his words "Congress never says I am hindu, muslim, sikh... it says I am Congress". Secondly he feels Congress party does a lot for the youth.
He tells us how Rahul Gandhi organized elections for the Youth Congress in his area which gave a fair chance to people at the bottom reach the top. He believes a true leader always carries his people with him. And if we want 'Hindustan to remain Hindustan' then Congress needs to stay as they take people forward and not backwards.

Harijnder Singh standing in a gurudwara that is over 80 years old says 'the traditions have come down from Guru Nanak devji's times'. Every gurudwara however big or small serves langar. You will get shelter and even warm bedding for the night in winter. The morning langar consists of only tea and breakfast. And post the 11o'clock prayers the main langar is served as Prasad.
Harjinder Singh, a mason by profession says one doesn't need a qualification to serve god. Anyone can come and serve according to their forte. If you like cooking, you can cook or else help by serving the food. The langar is open not just to sikhs but hindus and muslims as well. If a poor man wants to get his daughter married he can do so in the gurudwara free of cost.
He says people understand which government does good work and they do reward good work. They want to give another chance to the people who serve the nation honestly.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Sreshtha
Sreshtha's journey from a housewife to a working woman is remarkable. She has been working for the past 7 years in the local Aanganwadi. She says when you stay at home you are totally caught up in your daily routines. And when you step out of home you end up learning a lot more about life. She has learnt a lot in these last 7 years that she has been working.
She says "Women who had barely been out of the homes, who had no hope of an income are spending 15 days on the job and earning well." Citing her own example she says being an Aanganwadi worker she's now able to spend money on her children's education. Because she's working she is able to fulfill her family's needs.
Sreshtha asks why no government before Congress ever thought of doing something for women. In 2013, The UPA led Congress government had proposed opening of 27,000 new Anganwadi centres.
Her village too in Himachal has seen a lot of development in the last 10 years. The jeep road now goes all the way into the villages which 10 years back was a distant dream. Shehroon Nisha of Uttar Pradesh would barely earn ten rupees after a hard day of work. She then joined the women's self help group and that changed her life completely.
This women's self help group lent her some money. Shehroon nisha who didn't even have a place to stay bought a buffalo from that money. She didn't care about the house as long as she was earning a living and not being a slave to anyone else for ten rupees.
She again took some money from the self help group and got her son the license to drive a truck. Today, the son is married and happy. Now she's planning to get posh room made for the new daughter-in-law.
She took baby steps towards her dream when she joined the women's self help group. Dream that finally came true. Now she says her next wish is that Rahul Gandhi wins in the upcoming elections.

Priyank Kharge, Congress MLA from Chittapur (Karnataka) strongly believes "If for every constituency one has a vision India will automatically develop." He is a clearly a man who's with the people. He is available for them 24/7 on the phone as he understands that people who have voted for him would only want to speak to him. On an average he attends about 400 calls a day. The public of his constituency likes to discuss the problems they face.
After being elected from his constituency his main task was to give people what belongs to them. 'Every rupee that comes from the government should reach the people directly' he says. For that he had to synchronize his own administration so that people would start reaping the benefits quickly. Whether its farmers problems or youths, he understands them all and has a plan in place to solve them. Like a true leader, he has long-term vision for his constituency and his people.

Hussain hails from Kovalam, Kerala. His work mainly consists of boating and fishing. The peak tourist seasons he says lasts for about 3 months which gets him good work. When the tourist season finishes he goes for fishing. Sometimes he is able to catch plenty sometimes not too many. But he is happy.
Hussain also talks about Mr. Shashi Tharoor and how much good work he has done. The new harbour was entirely his initiative. A big reason why he and his people would vote for him. He says Mr. Tharoor is an honest man and the new harbor that he has built will have far reaching effects and will even help the next generation.
