Fifa crisis: US charges 16 more officials after earlier Zurich arrests

US officials investigating corruption at football's world governing body Fifa have charged 16 more officials.

The new indictment, released by the Department of Justice in Washington, comes hours after the arrest of two Fifa vice-presidents in Zurich.

Former Brazil football federation chief Ricardo Teixeira was among those accused of being "involved in criminal schemes involving well over $200m (£132m) in bribes and kickbacks".

    A US-led investigation into the FIFA corruption scandal has resulted in the arrests of more than 12 officials, at least some of which took place at the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich, according to reports by the New York Times, Thursday. FIFA spokespeople have confirmed that “action” was taken by US authorities.

    Further details have been released about the latest arrests linked to widespread corruption within FIFA. After the initial allegations mid year, a further 16 people have been indicted by United States prosecutors investigating soccer's world governing body. It is now alleged that well over 200 million US dollars has been received in bribes and kickbacks. From Washington DC, John Beaver has more on this.
