KHURDA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attacked the Naveen Patnaik-led government in Odisha, alleging that the "demon of corruption" had become strong in the state under the rule of the Biju Janata Dal with an all-pervading '"percentage commission culture'".
"Demon of corruption in the form of chit fund scams and PC (percentage commission) culture has grown strong in Odisha," PM Modi said.

PM Modi's scathing allegation comes as Odisha is gearing up for its assembly polls next year along with the Lok Sabha General Elections.

PM Modi alleged that inefficiency and corruption have kept Odisha backward, despite assistance from the Centre. PM Modi also sought to know who is "feeding and patronising the demon of corruption".

    In Balasore, PM Modi attacks Congress for not demonstrating country’s defence capability
    Addressing a rally in Odisha’s Balasore, the ground zero of ISRO’s successful anti-satellite missile test, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assailed the Congress for being only concerned about the interest of a “naamdar family” and not the country’s security.

    “Balasore’s name has been recorded in history. The previous governments had shied away from demonstrating the country’s defence capability as they were busy serving the interests of a ‘naamdar’ family,” PM Modi said.

    In an address to the nation on March 27, PM Modi had announced that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a live satellite under ‘Mission Shakti’, becoming only the fourth country to do so after Russia, United States and China.
    Criticising the BJD government in Odisha for its alleged failure to tackle corruption, the PM said, the “Naveen Patnaik-led party has resorted to attacks on the BJP workers after realizing that it will no longer remain in power”.

    “People have made up their mind that they will replace the BJD government in the state with the BJP government to ensure speedy development,” he signed off.

    Will Work To Make Odisha A Developed State: Aparajita Sarangi

    Former Odisha-cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi, who formally joined the BJP two days ago, on Thursday said that she dreams of a developed Odisha and work towards it.

    “I am very excited to return to my home state. We will all work together to make Odisha a developed state. I have joined politics as I am overwhelmingly influenced by the modus operandi of the Prime Minister,” Aparajita told mediapersons on arriving at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, where she was given a rousing reception by senior party leaders and thousands of party workers.

    Party sources said the former IAS officer will visit the Lingaraj Temple before leaving for the party office.

    Aparajita had formally joined the BJP in the presence of party’s national president Amit Shah, senior BJP leader and Odisha in-charge, Arun Singh, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and president of the Odisha BJP unit Basanta Panda in New Delhi on November 27.

    Briefing mediaperson soon after her joining, she had said that after serving as an IAS officer in different important capacities for over 24 years, she realized that politics is the best medium for serving the people.

The projects, which will uplift the infrastructure of the state, are worth more than Rs 4500 crore. Interestingly, this is PM Modi’s second visit to the eastern state in less than a fortnight, as he flagged off many projects in Odisha last month.

    PM Modi has also launched several new railway projects, which included flagging off of the second passenger train service from Tatanagar to Badampahar. The railway line between Tatanagar and Badampahar was laid in the year 1911 and only one train ran on this route, according to a PTI report.
