The six-member Bimal Jalan committee - formed December, 2018 to review the economic capital framework (ECF) for the Reserve Bank of India after the finance ministry wanted the central bank to follow global best practices and transfer more surplus to the government, is recommending that surplus reserves held by the RBI be transferred to the government in tranches over three to five years. Consensus eludes Jalan panel on RBI surplus, report delayed
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) panel deciding on norms for transfer of the central bank's surplus funds to the government has further delayed submitting its report, an official said on Monday. As the differences continue among the RBI Economic Framework Capital (ECF) panel members over the distribution of the central bank's surplus reserves, the Bimal Jalan led-committee has sought more time to submit its report, the official source said.

RBI accepts Jalan panel report, approves Rs 176 lakh crore surplus transfer to govt
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday accepted Bimal Jalan committee recommendations and approved surplus transfer to the government.RBI board decided to transfer a sum of Rs 1,76,051 crore to the Government of India comprising of Rs 1,23,414 crore of surplus for the year 2018-19 and Rs 52,637 crore of excess provisions identified as per the revised Economic Capital Framework (ECF) adopted at its board meeting.

Parliamentary panel pulls up RBI, asks to review capital needs for banks
Parliament's standing committee on finance has come down heavily on RBI and has asked it to review the capital adequacy norms for banking sector. The Veerappa Moily headed panel report says that stringent capital adequacy norms for PSBs are unrealistic and unwarranted. The committee, in its report tabled in Parliament, has recommended "that all the offences under this Bill should be made cognisable and non-bailable and the same should be clearly mentioned in the Bill".

22 Covid & non-Covid patients allegedly died following a 'mock oxygen drill' in UP. A viral video purportedly of a hospital owner in Agra has sparked a major controversy. In the video, the man is heard saying that he got oxygen supply from patients snapped for 5 mins. The man, in the video, added that this was part of an experiment to know who all will survive. Reports suggest the video is purportedly of Arinjay Jain, owner of Paras Hospital on NH 2. UP health dept has ordered a probe into the incident after the video went viral.
