    Sensex snaps 3-day winning run, slips 194 pts amid global sell-off; Nifty ends above 11,900

    The BSE Sensex snapped its three-day rising streak to end 194 points lower Wednesday, pressured by losses in banking and auto stocks amid a broad sell-off in overseas markets. After slumping over 300 points during the day, the BSE gauge pared some losses to settle 193.65 points, or 0.48 per cent, lower at 39,756.81. The index hit an intra-day low of 39,623.53 and a high of 39,982.10. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty fell 59.40 points, or 0.50 per cent, to close at 11,906.20. During the day, the index touched a low of 11,866.35 and a high of 11,962.45.

    The BSE Sensex ended over 150 points lower Monday on heavy selloff by foreign investors after industrial output growth data dropped to a 17-month low. After a volatile session, the 30-share index settled 156.28 points, or 0.43 per cent, down at 35,853.56, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 57.35 points, or 0.53 per cent, to finish at 10,737.60. The fall was led by L&T, IndusInd Bank, PowerGrid, NTPC, TCS, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Bharti Airtel and SBI, declining up to 2.64 per cent.

    Equity benchmarks racked up losses for the fifth straight session on Wednesday as risk sentiment remained fragile after IMF slashed India's growth outlook. The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 135.09 points or 0.36 per cent to close at an over two-month low of 37,847.65. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty dropped 59.75 points or 0.53 per cent to 11,271.30. This has been the longest losing streak for the indices since early May. The Sensex has now lost 1,049.81 points, or 2.69 per cent, in five sessions, while the Nifty has shed 325.60 points or 2.80 per cent.
