New Delhi: As Google continued to celebrate the Olympics with its new doodle, today’s theme is on London 2012 Pole Vault, which is also the ninth day of the biggest sporting event. The doodle illustrates a woman athlete performing a jump at the London 2012 Pole Vault event. The London 2012 Pole Vault event will take place on the 8th of August 2012 to the 10th of August 2012.
Yesterday, Google dedicated the doodle to London 2012 Shot Put.

On Thursday, Google welcomed its users with London 2012 Table Tennis doodle on the homepage of the sporting extravaganza.

On Wednesday, doodle featured a woman hockey player dribbling the hockey ball in a green turf with the Google logo in the background.

Google had celebrated London 2012 artistic gymnastics men's rings on Tuesday with the doodle depicting a male gymnast displaying his craft on rings.
On Monday, Google honoured London 2012 Fencing with the doodle showing two fencers - one in attack mode and the other player in defense mode - with the letter ‘L’ from the Google’s logo shown as one of the bladed weapons being used by the latter.

On Sunday, the doodle was dedicated for the London 2012 diving which showed a female diver taking position to take a back-flip into the pool with Google’s logo forming inside the pool.

    London 2012 pole vault is the ninth London Olympics doodle, carrying on the tradition of a Google doodle every day of the Olympics.

    The sport of pole vault involves athletes using a pole to jump (or vault) themselves over a set target defined by a metal bar.

    The Google doodle depicts a female pole vaulter safely negotiating her set mark, high above the crowd and the stadium, even as the Google logo is partially visible in the backdrop.

    Last Friday, the Google doodle had celebrated the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The doodle 5 athletes playing different Olympic sports. On Saturday, the Google doodle had celebrated the sport of archery, with a female archer getting ready to aim for bull's eye.

    Sunday's Google doodle celebrated the Olympic sport of diving. Monday and Tuesday were about fencing and gymnastics men's rings respectively. Wednesday it was the turn of field hockey, the first time the sport found its way into a Google doodle. The sport of table tennis or ping pong was depicted on Thursday. This Friday it was the turn of shot put.

    Google has a rich history of Olympics related doodles. In 2008, there was a doodle celebrating the opening ceremony of the Bejing Olympics on Aug 8, 2008. This doodle showed the five Beijing Olympics mascots - BeiBei, JingJing, HuanHuan, YingYing and NiNi - carrying the Olympic flag.

    The London 2012 pole vault is the Google's new fascinating doodle to show its support to the sporting extravaganza. It is the ninth doodle since the opening of the London Olympics 2012.

    The doodle features a female pole vaulter in action, trying to take a leap over the bar using a long and flexible pole. Moreover, in the London 2012 pole vault doodle, the logo of Google is seen behind the stadium in which the ceiling of the stadium is painted in varied colours of green, yellow, red and yellow.
    Pole vault jumping competition is held as a part of the Olympics Games since 1896 for men, but it was only in the year 2000 women were allowed to participate in the competition.

    This sport came a long way since its inception. Earlier pole vault competitions were held using solid ash poles but with the advancement of technology, it has been replaced with fiberglass bar with rubber ends.

    In this sport, athletes are given the freedom to choose different heights to jump over and if/she succeeds a height, the height of the bar is raised, thus making it more competitive for the next set of jumps.

    The landing area of this sport is important and to minimize the risk of injury for pole vault, it is designed into high-tech mats with foam.

    A female pole vaulter propels herself high in the sky in Google's ninth doodle during the ongoing London Olympic Games. The Google logo looms behind the stadium, the ceiling of which is painted in Google colours - blue, red, yellow and green.
    Pole vault is one of the field events in the athletics programme in London 2012. In the sport of pole vault, athletes take a up with a pole in their hands and use it to propel themselves over a bar. There is no restriction on the length or diameter of the pole, the requirement is that the pole must be smooth.
    Athletes propel themselves by planting the end of their pole into a box at the base of the landing area, and using their speed, momentum and the bend of the pole to get themselves over the bar.
    There are different heights that athletes can choose to jump over at their own discretion. Failing in three consecutive jumps leads to elimination. Once the a height is completed or passed, the bar is raised for the next set of jumps.
    The legendary Ukrainian pole vaulter Sergey Bubka holds the men's world record of a height of 6.14 metres set on July 31, 1994 in Sestriere, Italy. The Olympic record was set by Steven Hooker with 5.96 metres on August 22, 2008 at Beijing.
    The London 2012 pole vault men's qualification rounds are scheduled for August 8 and the final is on August 10.

    Pole vaulting is a track and field event in which a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today is usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar.

    It has been a full medal event at the Olympic Games since 1896 for men and 2000 for women.To achieve the maximum possible height, every aspect of the jump must be perfect, including the run-up.

    The pole can be any length or diameter, but must be smooth. Athletes plant the end of the pole into a box at the base of the landing area, and use their speed, momentum and the bend of the pole to get themselves over.

    Artistic gymnastics was introduced at the very first Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, and has been present at every edition of the Games since then. At the beginning, it comprised disciplines that are difficult to qualify as "artistic", such as climbing and acrobatics.

    The foundations of the Olympic gymnastics programme were laid at the 1924 Games in Paris, when the men's apparatus individual and team competitions appeared.
