Sensex opens marginally higher; Nifty nears 11,750 mark

The key Indian equity market indices on Monday opened marginally higher thanks to IndusInd Bank and Larsen & Toubro. Auto stocks were the biggest drags. Sensex rose 50 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 39,244 with IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, and TCS being the biggest gainers. Nifty50 index added 13 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 11,737.

  • Sensex opens in the green amid positive global cues; Nifty nears 11,700

    Key benchmark indices opened flat with a positive bias on Tuesday but indecisiveness at higher levels soon induced volatility in the market. At around 9.30 am, Sensex was trading 51 points or 0.13 per cent up at 38,922.97. While its NSE counterpart Nifty rose 10 points, or 0.08 per cent at 11,679. India VIX jumped 2 per cent.

  • Sensex, Nifty end marginally lower on F&O expiry

    Equity indices surrendered early gains to end modestly lower Thursday, extending their loss-making streak to the sixth straight session, amid expiry of July series derivative contracts. After soaring over 300 points in opening trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex came under selling pressure to finally close at 37,830.98, showing a loss of 16.67 points or 0.04 per cent. The broader NSE Nifty too shed 19.15 points or 0.17 per cent to settle at 11,252.15.

  • Sensex rallies 637 pts as govt may withdraw FPIs higher surcharge; Nifty reclaims 11,000-mark

    Equity benchmark indices staged a smart recovery during second half of trading on Thursday with the Nifty closing above 11,000 mark. The market rallied after reports suggested that the government is likely to roll back the recently-imposed higher tax on foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). The introduction of a surcharge on higher income brackets announced in the Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has led to a brisk selloff by FPIs. At the closing bell, the BSE S&P Sensex was up 637 points or 1.74 per cent at 37,327 while the Nifty 50 edged higher by 177 points or 1.63 per cent to 11,032.
