The six-member Bimal Jalan committee - formed December, 2018 to review the economic capital framework (ECF) for the Reserve Bank of India after the finance ministry wanted the central bank to follow global best practices and transfer more surplus to the government, is recommending that surplus reserves held by the RBI be transferred to the government in tranches over three to five years. A day after the Reserve Bank of India's Central Board accepted the Bimal Jalan panel recommendations and decided to transfer Rs 1.76 lakh crore in dividend and surplus reserves to the government, Congress on Tuesday slammed the move. Congress media chief Randeep Singh Surjewala called the move a "fiscal harakiri", and asked whether it was sheer coincidence that the Rs 1.76 lakh crore borrowed by the RBI matches with the "missing amount in the Budget calculation".

Jet Airways on Thursday posted a loss of Rs 587.77 crore for the quarter ended December 31 against profit of Rs 165.25 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
