Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that within 10 weeks of returning to power, his government took key decisions to fulfil the aspirations of people and cited the new law on triple talaq and scrapping of special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. In his address to the nation on 73rd Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort, he said "We should try to root out problems. The sword of triple talaq was hanging over the heads of our Muslim sisters. This fear was affecting their lives. Even Islamic nations had abolished it earlier. But we were hesitant in empowering our Muslim sisters. If we could raise our voice against child marriage and dowry, then why not triple talaq? Thus, capturing the spirit of the people of the nation and of the Constitution envisaged by Babasaheb Ambedkar, we took an important decision to do away with triple talaq. When we can ban Sati, when we can take strong steps against female infanticide, child marriage, then why not this?"

    22 Covid & non-Covid patients allegedly died following a 'mock oxygen drill' in UP. A viral video purportedly of a hospital owner in Agra has sparked a major controversy. In the video, the man is heard saying that he got oxygen supply from patients snapped for 5 mins. The man, in the video, added that this was part of an experiment to know who all will survive. Reports suggest the video is purportedly of Arinjay Jain, owner of Paras Hospital on NH 2. UP health dept has ordered a probe into the incident after the video went viral.
