Shoaib Akhtar Hits Out At PCB After Pakistan's Test Series Loss To Australia And More Cricket News
Former speedster Shoaib Akhtar has come out hard at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the team’s 0-1 defeat in the home Test series against Australia. While the first two games ended in a draw, the Aussies walked away with a 115-run triumph in the third and final Test to lift the trophy. Notably, the cricket fraternity has been critical of Pakistan’s ‘defensive’ approach throughout the series.
With the first two Tests ending in a draw, the pitch conditions in Rawalpindi and Karachi drew massive criticism, although the hosts made a terrific comeback to salvage a draw in the second Test. Babar Azam’s men looked on the right track to earn a draw in the Lahore Test as well. However, Nathan Lyon’s five-for meant the Aussies record a historic series win on Pakistan soil.
Akhtar wasn’t amused with the proceedings as he lashed out at PCB for their lackluster approach in the series. At the same time, he also lavished praises on the Pat Cummins-led side for playing brave cricket.
Veteran pacer Umesh Yadav is hopeful of making a comeback in India’s white-ball teams with an impressive show in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The 34-year-old will serve Kolkata Knight Riders this season, who bought him for his base price of INR 2 crore in the mega auction. Notably, Umesh last played a white-ball game for India back in 2019. He has been out of contention since then with India producing one quality fast bowler after another.
Moreover, the speedster had a hard time in the last few IPL seasons as well. Nonetheless, the right-arm pacer has been working on his game and is determined to play white-ball cricket for India again. In a recent development, 14 members of a broadcast team from the bio-bubble set up have tested positive for COVID-19. As per reports, the broadcast team was staying at Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai. In what can be called a major development, Prasidh Krishna has been added to India’s squad for the fourth Test against England in the ongoing five-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India broke the news on Wednesday (September 1) in an official statement. It was mentioned that Krishna’s inclusion was based on the request of the team management. Hence, the right-arm pacer would be available for the penultimate game.
For the unversed, Krishna traveled to England as a stand-by player. However, the fitness and injury concerns of other players prompted the team management to put him in the squad. Krishna has been one of the most prolific performers in India’s domestic circuit lately and expectations would be high from him. The tall and lanky speedster can clock good speeds and his ability to swing the ball makes him an even greater asset.
Krishna’s height also helps him generating more bounce from the surface. Hence, his addition would give a new dimension to India’s pace attack. As far as his numbers in First-Class cricket are concerned, the Karnataka-born cricketer has taken 34 wickets in nine appearances. It has to be noted that Krishna made his ODI debut during the home series against England earlier this year.
He impressed one and all, scalping six wickets in three outings. Hence, Test cricket is a different ball game and it will be interesting to see how Krishna tackles this challenge. Meanwhile, the five-match series is currently poised at 1-1 after the first two games. This means the winner of the fourth game would earn an unassailable 2-1 lead.
Virat Kohli’s men certainly have a job in hand as they put up a horrendous show during the previous encounter at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds. England outplayed them in all three departments and comprehensively won the game by an innings and 76 runs. Nevertheless, the series is perfectly poised at the moment, and writing off India won’t be wise for the home team.

After successive failure, he was released by CSK but he was picked by Kings XI Punjab. However, he failed to prove his worth for his new franchise. Gony’s last appearance in IPL came in 2017 playing for Gujarat Lions.
In 2019, he bid adieu to international cricket and shifted his focus to T20 leagues as a freelance cricketer. He walked on the footsteps of Yuvraj Singh and played for Toronto Nationals in the Canada Global T20 League. In an interview, Gony also accepted the fact that after taking retirement he will keep playing for different teams in the franchise cricket.

Talking about the tournament, 14 matches have already been played in the league stage, with Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings attaining the top 4 spots currently. KKR is leading the charts with six points to their name, with one loss and three wins in the four matches played.
All the other three sides are tied at four points as only the Gujarat Titans remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. The hot favourites of the IPL- Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings – are yet to open their account as they’ve suffered a defeat in all the three games played so far. The last game of the league stage will be played on May 22 followed by the playoffs.
