    ഓരോ വ്യക്തിക്കും ജീവിക്കുവാനും സമൂഹത്തിനു വേണ്ടി എന്തെങ്കിലുമൊക്കെ ചെയ്യുവാനുമുള്ള പ്രചോദനമാണ് മാഗിയുടെ കഥ. വീടും പഠനവും കൂട്ടുകാരുമായി ഒതുങ്ങിക്കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന മാഗി തന്റെ പതിനെട്ടാം വയസ്സിൽ പെട്ടന്നൊരു തീരുമാനം എടുത്തു. യാത്രകൾ പോകാൻ. കയ്യിൽ കിട്ടിയ ഒരു ബാഗിൽ ആവശ്യവസ്തുക്കൾ മാത്രം എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് ആരംഭിച്ച ആ യാത്രയിൽ അവൾ പല ഭാഷകളും സംസ്കാരങ്ങളും നേരിട്ട് കണ്ടും അനുഭവിച്ചും അറിഞ്ഞു. മാഗിയുടെ യാത്ര നേപ്പാളിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോഴാണ് പുഞ്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ചകൾക്കപ്പുറത്ത് വേദനിക്കുന്ന, നന്നായി ജീവിക്കാൻ വേണ്ട സാഹചര്യങ്ങൾ ഇല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ലോകമുണ്ട് എന്ന് മാഗിക്ക് മനസിലായത്.
    നേപ്പാളിലെ അനാഥ കുട്ടികളുടെ ജീവിതം കണ്ട മാഗി തന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ലക്‌ഷ്യം ഇവര്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടിയാകണം എന്ന് ഉറപ്പിച്ചു
    പഠനം നിര്‍ത്തി നേപ്പാളില്‍ താമസം ഉറപ്പിക്കാന്‍ മാഗി എത്തി. പതിനെട്ടാം വയസില്‍ ധാരാളം അനാഥ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വം അവള്‍ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു . കുട്ടികളെ താമസിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി കെട്ടിടം പണിയാൻ നേപ്പാളിൽ കുറച്ചു സ്ഥലം വാങ്ങി. ഇതിനായി വേണ്ടിവന്ന 5000 ഡോളർ മാഗിയുടെ മാതാപിതാക്കൾ നൽകി. കെട്ടിടം പണിത ശേഷം കൂടുതൽ കുട്ടികളെ മാഗി ഏറ്റെടുത്തു. പിന്നീട് മാഗിയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് പിന്തുണയുമായി വന്നവർ നൽകിയ സംഭവനയിൽ നിന്നും ഒരു വിഹിതമെടുത്ത് കുട്ടികളുടെ തുടർപഠനം ഉറപ്പാക്കുന്നതിനായി ഒരു സ്‌കൂൾ പണിതു. ഇന്ന് രോഗം ബാധിച്ചവരും അനാഥരും ആഭ്യന്തര യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടവരുമായ 200ൽ പരം കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ വളർത്തമ്മയാണ് മാഗി.
