Argentina vs China - Women's Hockey World League Final Argentina Groups [03/12/13]

Argentina met China on day three of the women's hockey world league finals in Argentina. The final pool game of the group saw Argentina winning 3-1 and safely through to the quarter finals.

The first goal came after a poor pass by D'Elia sending China on the counter attack, Mengrong WU the scorer.

The equalizer came after a lovely bit of play by Aymar cutting in from the right hand side and teeing up Albertarrio.

With 6 minutes left of the first half Argentina took the lead, Luchetti getting onto D'Elia original penalty corner shot and directing it into the top corner, 2-1.

Argentina's third came after a penalty corner the shot hitting the frame of the goal for a second time in the match, this time though the ball coming back in and Merino was there to get on the end of it, 3-1.

Argentina saw off the rest of the half finishing 3-1 and seeing them safely through to the quarter finals to the delight of their home support.

    Day two of the Women's Hockey World League Final in Argentina saw Australia take on China in Pool B with Australia coming out 5-1 winners.

    After a close opening 15 minutes, Australia made the breakthrough when Claire Messent picked up the rebound from Georgie Parker's shot and fired in past the diving Li. Three minutes later Australia doubled their lead, Kellie White diverting in Madonna Blyth's shot from close range.

    China pulled one back before half time. Ashlee Wells initial save from a penalty corner deflecting in off the foot of Jodie Schulz to make it 2-1 at the break.

    Australia extended their lead soon after the restart when Georgie Parker's shot sneaked through the legs of Li for Emily Smith to tap in and it was Smith again who grabbed the fourth in similar fashion, following in the rebound from Brooke Peris's effort.

    Peris came close to making it five when her great strike came crashing off the post before Schulz completed the victory turning in a penalty corner with the last shot of the game and give the Hockeyroos a convincing 5-1 win.

    Australia met New Zealand on day three of the women's hockey world league finals in Argentina. Australia taking away all 3 points from their rivals New Zealand in a 5-1 victory.
    Australia started strong and took the lead 10 minutes in with Parker popping up at the far post.
    New Zealand equalized from a penalty corner, Punts shot taking a slight deflection on its way in.
    The third saw Nelson guide the ball past Sally Rutherford from a nice cross field ball, putting Australia ahead going into half time.
    Australia carried on from where they left off in the first half, a wonderful strike from Kelly White increasing the lead to 3-1.
    Australia's fourth came from a well worked penalty corner with Schulz guiding the ball into the bottom corner.
    A goal of the day contended by Kelly White saw her get her second and confirmed Australia the win.

    Netherlands met Germany on day one of the Women's Hockey World League Final in Argentina. Netherlands dominated the game, winning 6-0.

    A relatively quiet first half saw just the one goal as Maartje Paumen made it 1-0 with a brilliant turn and shot beating Victoria Wiederman .

    That all changed after the break. The Netherlands showing their class as they scored 5 second half goals in a wonderful attacking display.

    Lidewij Welten, Maria Verschoor, Frederique Derkx, Malou Pheninckx all opened their accounts in Argentina while limiting the Germans to just three shots for the entire game. The goal of the day came from Ellen Hoog at the end of a superb team move to seal the perfect start for Netherlands, 6-0 the final score.

    England faced Korea in the opening game of the Women's Hockey World League Final with England winning 6-2.

    The first half saw the Koreans race into the lead with two goals in three minutes. The first came from a well worked penalty corner with Ki Ju Park slotting past Maddie Hinch. The second showed lovely stick work, a delicate volley from Seung A Park took it past Hinch to give the Koreans an unexpected lead.

    The second half showed England at their very best. A penalty corner was fired in by Lily Owsley before a penalty stroke was awarded to England after Korea had used feet in the area. Georgie Twigg scored with assurance and England took the lead for the first time in the match.

    It was all England from then on in, Sophie Bray and Kate Richardson-Walsh also got on the scoresheet to give England a convincing 6-2 victory and the perfect start to their campaign.

  • England vs Argentina - Women's Hockey World League Final Argentina 3/4 [08/12/2013]

    Day 6 and the final day of the Argentina Hockey World League Final 2013 where we see England take on Argentina in the 3rd and 4th place match.

    First Half started in England's favour when their first attack when Laura Unsworth shot crept over the line and seeing England go 1-0 early in the game. Argentina, who were dominating this half, surged forward for an equalizer and came close when a Penalty Corner was met by Noel Barrionuevo had her shot go straight to Carla Rebecci but saw the ball bobble off her stick and go wide of the goal.

    However, with Argentina pressing and showing a strong dominance in the game, England's lead did not last long. Julia Gomes Fantasia shot from outside the D lead to an England own goal when Maddie Hinch (GK), attempted to stop the shot but the ball came deflected off the keeper into the goal leaving the scores at the break one a piece.

    The Second Half started the same as the first half ended with Argentina dominating most of the chances. Argentina came close when a Penalty Corner received by Luciana Aymar (C) went wide of the post and was unlucky not to go in. The host tournament team carried on pressing and came close again when Carla Rebecci received the ball and forcing her way into the D, unleashing a fierce shot that was again palmed away by Keeper Maddie Hinch (GK).

    China scored their first after 7 minutes; Cui the scorer after Wang's original shot was saved.

    Both teams created chances and with 12 minutes left of the half China were awarded a penalty stroke. Wang stepped up but Sally Rutherford was on hand to stop China adding to their lead.

    After a quiet second half China did finally double the score, HUANG Ting converting after a poor penalty corner. An excellent start to the tournament for China but a disappointing result for New Zealand.

    England reached the semi-finals of the Women's Hockey World League Final in Argentina after edging China 1-0 in a tough quarter final encounter.

    England had the better of the first half chances; Lily Owsley sent her shot over the bar from Nic White's pass and then Susannah Townsend almost diverted in Kate Richardson-Walsh's long pass, instead finding the side-netting.

    With both teams evenly matched it remained goalless at half time.

    Ten minutes into the second half and England took the lead when Susie Gilbert won a penalty stroke after her goal-bound effort hit a foot.

    Georgie Twigg had her initial attempt saved but was given a second chance when the officials ordered a retake and calmly slotted into the bottom left corner.

    China played Germany in the second 5th-8th playoff match on day 5 of the Women's World Hockey League Finals in Tucuman, in Argentina, winning 3-1.

    A strong performance from the Chinese, who were clinical in front of goal from the start. Yang Peng scored a fantasic reverse stick goal to open the scoring, before Ting Huang calmly converted a penalty stroke, to make it 2-0 at half time.
    Liang scored China's third in the second half, an impressive strike from the edge of the 'D' which rocketed past 'keeper Barbara Vogel.
    Germany found a goal late on in the match, some tidy stick work from Katharina Otter made space for a pass across goal, which was jabbed in by Lena Jacobi to make it 3-1.
    It was too late for the German's and that was how the score stayed, meaning China progress to the 5th/6th Playoff tomorrow against New Zealand.
