James Brady, the former the White House press secretary who survived being shot during an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981, passed away at age 73 after health issues, his family said Monday in a statement.Brady became a big advocate of gun control and inspired the Brady Bill, which requires background checks for gun purchases. David Gergen, Reagan's former adviser, was a friend of Brady's. He spoke to CNN about the memories they shared.
