Закон о гарантиях занятости сельского населения имени Махатмы Ганди считается примером одной из самых революционных политик Индии в отношении труда и бедности сельского населения. Построенный как личное исследование проблемы роста и развития Индии -- постоянно растущей пропасти между бедными и богатыми -- фильм проводит зрителя по четырем штатам страны, и, таким образом, можно увидеть осуществление закона Махатмы Ганди как решения для некоторых проблем. Одним из наиболее важных открытий этого исследования стало то, что, несмотря на многочисленные лазейки в осуществлении закона, закон этот, в действительности, дал трудящимся возможность работать в лучших условиях, предоставляя им выбор ведения коллективных переговоров при отстаивании своих прав. Кроме того, связанные мероприятия, например, проверки общественными службами были ничем иным как революцией, но только гарантируя прозрачность и подотчетность, но и бросая вызов феодальным отношениям и перестраивая общество в интересах маргинальных слоев. Рассказывая о периоде после обретения Индией независимости, фильм «Связь Индии и Бхарата» рассматривает цель Закона о гарантиях занятости сельского населения имени Махатмы Ганди и то, как он выполнялся за последние 5 лет. В поиске видимых изменений в «низах» страны фильм переносит нас в Раджастан, Бихар, Сикким и Андхра-Прадеш.
