Sonia Gandhi strikes chord with people at Brahmapuri in Maharashtra

In her first election rally for the Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his govt’s anti-poor policies. She launched her party campaign here invoking the region's loyalty to the party. "The people of Vidarbha have always stood by the Congress and our governments have reciprocated by giving special relief packages for the people and bringing development," she said. "Good governance always gets support and we have done it in the state," she said. The Congress is the only party that cared for tribals and other weaker sections of the society, Sonia Gandhi said referring to the Forest Rights Act implemented by the Congress-led Prithviraj Chavan government in the state.

Elections are taking place at a time when you have faced a natural disaster (floods). It does not feel good to talk politics (but) the relief and rehabilitation work is going on a very slow pace."
