'Chhari Mubarak' taken to ancient Sharika-Bhawani temple
JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Chhari Mubarak', the saffron-robed holy mace of Lord Shiva, was today taken to the ancient 'Sharika-Bhawani' temple on the Hari Parbat hillock in downtown area of the city here for offering special prayers as per the age-old customs related to the annual Amarnath Yatra.
Carried by its custodian Mahant Deependra Giri and accompanied by a group of sadhus and devotees, the holy mace was taken to the temple to pay obeisance to the Goddess on the occasion of 'Shravan Shukla Paksha Pradipada', as per the age-old traditions, a spokesman of the 'True Trust', founded by Giri in 2004, said.
He said Goddess 'Sharika-Bhawani', popularly known as 'Tripursundari' amongst the mystics, is believed to be 'Isht Devi' (Presiding Deity) of the Srinagar city who manifested herself in a figure of 'Shila' (holy rock) at Hari-Parbat.
Sadhus, who participated in the pujan, prayed for everlasting peace for Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesman said.
He said rituals connected with 'Chhari-Sthapana' would be performed tomorrow at Shri Amareshwar Temple Akhara Building, Budshah Chowk here. After performing the rituals, the holy mace would be kept in the temple for 'Darshan' till it leaves for main course of pilgrimage.

The complex houses 14 gopurams (gateway towers) ranging from 45-50m in height, the tallest being the southern tower, 51.9 metres (170 ft) high, and two golden sculptured vimana (shrine) over sanctum of the main deities
There is an estimated 33,000 sculptures in the temple and it was in the list of top 30 nominees of the "New Seven Wonders of the World".
The temple is the geographic and ritual center of the ancient city of Madurai and one of the largest temple complexes in Tamil Nadu. The temple complex is divided into a number of concentric quadrangular enclosures contained by high masonary walls. It is one of the few temples in Tamil Nadu to have four entrances facing four directions. Vishwantha Nayaka allegedly redesigned the city of Madurai in accordance with the principles laid down by Shilpa Shastras(Sanskrit: śilpa śāstra, also anglicized as silpa sastra meaning rules of architecture) relevant to urban planning. Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple Madurai, India: The "Aayiram Kaal Mandapam" or Thousand Pillar Hall contains 985(instead of 1000) carved pillars. The hall was built by Ariyanatha Mudaliar in 1569 and it is a structure where the engineering skill and artistic vision are blended. .Each pillar in the hall is a carved monument of the Dravidian sculpture. The more prominent among the carved figures are those of Rati(wife of Cupid), Karthikeya, Ganesha, Shiva as a wandering mendicant and endless number of yalis(mythical figures of lions). There is a Temple Art Museum in the hall where icons, photographs, drawings, and other exhibits of the 1200 years old history of the temple is displayed.
At the entrance of the hall the statue of Ariyanatha Mudaliar seated on a horse-back is present, which flanks one side of the entrance to the temple. The statue is periodically garlanded by worshipers Just outside this hall, towards the west, are the Musical Pillars. Each pillar, when struck, produces a different musical note.

Original idol of Maa Bhadrakali restored at ancient temple
The ancient temple of Bhadrakal village in Handwara wore a festive look, as the original idol of the presiding deity, Maa Bhadrakali, was restored to its original abode in a simple ceremony at the temple.
The idol was stolen in 1981 and was subsequently recovered and kept in Jammu since 1999. In 1891, Sarwa Bayu, a resident of Handwara had a dream wherein ‘Maa Bhadrakali’ directed him to unearth her idol from a shrine located in Khanyar, Srinagar. His son, Pandit Keshavji Bayu, accordingly, retrieved the idol and placed it at Bhadrakali temple in village Bhadrakal.

Srinagar-Jammu highway closed due to landslide
JAMMU LINKS NEWS | Fresh landslide in Udhampur district forced the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday.
A Traffic Department official said no traffic would be allowed on the highway following the landslides that occurred on Kheri road in Udhampur.
