    In a temporary relief to the vilalgers of Ramtalem, Aldona, The administrator of communidades issued a stop work order of the ongoing Material Recovery Plant. It may be recalled that yesterday, a tensed situation was witnessed in the villager as residents vehemently halted the ongoing construction of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed by the Aldona Panchayat, citing concerns about its proximity to a revered temple. The project, initially initiated following panchayat approvals, faced strong opposition from the locals who claimed it violated High Court orders. Meanwhile Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira said that people are trying to politicize & communalise the issue by saying that it is being built near a temple, that temple is far away from the MRF site, Said Ferreira

  • Aldona MRF shed controversy. Villagers stand firm in rejecting waste shed in temple vicinity

    The residents of Ramtale and Sai Nagar have decided to stand firm on their decision to oppose the proposed material recovery facility in the vicinity of a temple. The decision was taken during a joint meeting held on Sunday at Aldona. During the meeting, MRF shed issue was discussed. The issue of notices to be served to houseowners who have encroached on comunidade land was also discussed. “We are ready to fight to save our temple and also our houses” was the underlying feeling. The villagers said that complaints have been filed against selective locals for illegal construction for the houses. Amar Mandrekar said that “our ex-CM had taken an initiative to regularise houses built prior to 2000.” Those houses that were constructed recently will be demolished. “Don’t encroach on comunidade property as it is the land of Gaunkars and they have given it to us for the temple,” Mandrekar said. Commenting on the MRF shed, he said that panchayat body tried to set up the MRF shed during the Christmas vacation, and added that the Aldona MLA should support villagers on the issue.

    Residents of Ramtolem and Sainagar in Aldona, on Saturday, stopped the ongoing work of a material recovery facility (MRF) shed, being constructed by the Aldona panchayat following the High Court orders. The villagers came together to strongly oppose the shed, which is coming up in a property adjacent to a temple. They said they are not against the project, but pointed out that the site selected for it is not ideal since it is close to Ramtaleshwar temple. They demanded shifting of the project to another location. Earlier, the villagers had written to the authorities, including the Bardez deputy collector, the mamlatdar, the Goa State Pollution Control Board, the block development officer, the sarpanch and the secretary demanding that the work be stopped.
