    Fans of beloved actor Morgan Freeman are enraged about continued rumors regarding the 75-year-old actor's death.
    Representatives for Freeman have confirmed he is alive and well, but a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Morgan Freeman" has drawn 866,000 likes as online hoaxers continue to perpetuate rumors of his demise.
    Some fans have suggested jail time or banishment from social networks as punishment for the anonymous sources who continue to report Freeman is dead.

    Death hoaxes that spread through social media can be emotionally damaging for either the celebrity involved or that person's fans, according to Dr. Pamela Brown Rutledge, who spoke to Gather.com.
    "While a hoax may strike some as funny, and there are undoubtedly some instances of funny ones that we might commonly refer to as 'practical jokes,' most hoaxes are designed to promote the psychological or commercial interests of the perpetrator at the expense of the victims," she said.
    A spokesman for Freeman addressed the rumors over the weekend to ease the minds of worried fans.
    "Morgan is alive and well and joins the long list of actors who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," Freeman's rep said in a statement.

On September 11, over 870,000 people "liked" the page, many still confused about the actor's current condition. According to NBC News, the rumors surrounding the actor just won't go away.

    Apparently there is also a narration of "Fifty Shades of Grey" being circulated, people claiming that the voice belongs to Freeman—and that it was his last bit of work before he kicked the bucket.

    But Morgan Freeman isn't dead... and the voice doing the reading? Isn't even his. The voice is actually Josh Robert Thompson, an actor-comedian who is known for his impeccable impressions. So not only do several thousand people believe that Freeman is dead, but even more believe that he did a reading of the infamous "mommy porn" novel. Oy.

    It seems like a strange story -- reporting that someone is not dead. But the peristent rumors spreading virally throughout the Web in recent days that Hollywood star and Mississippian Morgan Freeman is dead have caused concern among many that needs correcting.

    Morgan Freeman is not dead, according to a representative of the actor.

    "Morgan is alive and well, and joins the long list of actors who have been victimized by this hoax," a rep for Freeman told E! Online.

    The Morgan Freeman dead rumor started late last week when a Facebook page that garnered tens of thousands likes suggested that the 75-year-old actor had died.

    Even though the Facebook page stated clearly in the description, "He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," many took the page that was named "R.I.P. Morgan Freeman" as truth and spread the rumor.
    It's easy, however, to see why many believed the page despite the disclaimer, considering the "About" section on the Facebook fan page said this:

    "At about 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, our beloved actor Morgan Freeman passed away due to a artery rupture. Morgan was born on June 1, 1937. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

    The page has more than 800,000 "likes."
