    ഫ്രഞ്ച് അധീന കോളനിയായിരുന്നു സീയിം റീപ്. ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ചൈനീസ് മാതൃകയിലുള്ള വാസ്തു നിര്‍മിതികളും കരകൗശല നിര്‍മാണ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളും മ്യൂസിയങ്ങളും ഒരുപാടുള്ള പ്രദേശമാണിത്.ചരിത്രത്തെ അടുത്തറിയാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് തീര്‍ച്ചയായും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാവുന്ന പ്രദേശമാണ് സീയിം റീപ്. ഖമര്‍ രാജാവ് രൂപകല്‍പ്പന ചെയ്ത പുരാതന ശില്‍പ്പങ്ങളാണ് ഇവിടെങ്ങും. അങ്കോര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ മുഖ്യ ആകര്‍ഷണം. സീയിം റീപ്പില്‍ എത്തുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികള്‍ കൂടുതലും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലം ചരിത്ര ശേഷിപ്പായ ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സ്മാരകമായ അങ്കോര്‍വാറ്റ് ആണ്.
    162.2 ഹെക്ടര്‍ പരന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന സ്മാരകം പുരാതന ഹിന്ദു ക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു.
    പിന്നീട് പന്ത്രണ്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ ബുദ്ധ ക്ഷേത്രമായി മാറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. പുരാതന കെട്ടിട ശേഷിപ്പുകള്‍, വാസ്തു ശില്‍പ്പങ്ങള്‍, അപ്‌സരസ്സുകളുടെ ശില്‍പ്പങ്ങള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവ ചരിത്രാന്വേഷകരെ കൂടുതല്‍ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കും.അങ്കോര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായിട്ടുള്ള പ്രഹാന്‍ ഖാന്‍ ഖമര്‍ വാസ്തുകലയില്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ച ലളിതവും ചെറിയതുമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഹിന്ദു, ബുദ്ധ മതങ്ങളുടെ സമന്വയ ദൃശ്യം ഇവിടെ കാണാം. വിശ്വാസികള്‍ ഗരുഡന്റെതെന്നു കരുതുന്ന നാഗാ പ്രതിമകള്‍, ഹാളിലെ നര്‍ത്തകര്‍, സ്തൂപങ്ങള്‍, ദീര്‍ഘ ഇടനാഴി എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രത്യേകതകള്‍. കൂടാതെ ബയോണ്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം, ബാഫ്യൂണ്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം, ബാന്‍ടീയി ക്ഷേത്രം തുടങ്ങിയവ സീയിം റീപ്പിലെ ചരിത്ര കാഴ്ചകളാണ്.
