British Olympic medallist Andrew Simpson has died after his catamaran capsized during an America's Cup training event.

Andrew Simpson - described as "a true sailing legend" - dies after his catamaran capsizes during training for the America's Cup.
Olympic gold medallist Andrew Simpson has been killed after his yacht capsized in San Francisco Bay during training for the America's Cup.
Simpson had been sailing on the Artemis, Sweden's entry in the upcoming race, when the catamaran turned over and he became trapped underneath for about 10 minutes, his racing team said in a statement.
Attempts were made to revive the 36-year-old both in the water and on the shore, but he was unable to be saved.
Artemis Racing said: "It is with immense sadness that Artemis Racing confirms the tragic death of crew member Andrew 'Bart' Simpson in San Francisco."
The team's chief executive Paul Cayard added: "The entire Artemis Racing team is devastated by what happened. Our heartfelt condolences are with Andrew's wife and family."
Mr Cayard said the boat had been brought "under control", but stressed the team's first concern was to "ensure everyone's well-being".

British Sailing's performance director John Derbyshire has led the tributes to Olympic gold medallist Andrew Simpson, who has died in a training accident.
Simpson, 36, won gold in the Star class with Iain Percy at the 2008 Olympics and silver at last year's Games.
Known as Bart, he died when the catamaran he was aboard capsized during training for the America's Cup in San Francisco Bay.
Derbyshire said: "Bart was one of the top sailors. He was a really nice guy."
"It's a really big shock, totally unexpected. These are big powerful boats but you don't associate them with fatalities. It's very sad."
Simpson was one of an 11-man crew on board the catamaran. He was trapped underneath when it capsized and did not respond to efforts to revive him using CPR.
The Surrey-born sailor was preparing for this year's America's Cup, the oldest trophy in sport, with Swedish team Artemis Racing.
America's Cup chief executive Stephen Barclay says he will wait for the full details of the accident before deciding whether changes should be made to the race, which has an opening ceremony on 4 July.
Barclay told BBC Radio 5 live: "We'll review the circumstances and find out the facts and if changes are needed we'll make them but we can't judge that now.

Tributes poured in from the world of sailing and beyond after Simpson, 36, died in a training accident in California.
Tributes have been paid to British Olympic sailing hero Andrew Simpson, who has died after his yacht capsized during training for the America’s Cup race.
The 36-year-old, nicknamed 'Bart', was trapped under the 72-foot catamaran in a training accident on the Artemis catamaran in San Francisco Bay, California.
A statement from Sir Ben Ainslie's Oracle team read: "Today is a sad day for all of us in the sailing community. Andrew Simpson was a great person, a terrific sailor, and a good friend to all of our team.
"Our thoughts are with his family and the entire Artemis team. He will be dearly missed."
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Sailing Team said they were "devastated" to confirm Simpson's death while sailing the 72ft yacht yesterday.
John Derbyshire, RYA's performance director: "We're devastated by the news from San Francisco today.
"Andrew is someone I've worked closely with since the age of 16 - he was a great talent, and a key figure in our World Class Programme over many years culminating in his well-deserved Olympic success.

Friends and colleagues pay tribute to Olympic gold medal winning sailor Andrew Simpson, who died when his boat capsized during training for the Americas Cup.
Simpson, 36, was sailing with the Swedish Artemis Racing team in San Francisco Bay when the yacht turned over and trapped him underneath, his team said on Thursday night.
The sailor, known as "Bart", was in a crew of 11 when the 72ft vessel overturned at 12:30pm local time (8:30pm GMT). The cause of the accident is so far unclear.
Simpson was trapped underwater for about 10 minutes, Artemis said, and doctors both in the water and on the shore could not revive him after he was freed from the wreckage.
Paul Cayard, Artemis' chief executive, said the entire team was "devastated" by what had happened. He said: "We obviously had a tragic day today on the bay and our thoughts and prayers are with Bart Simpson's - Andrew Simpson's - family, his wife and kids, and also with the rest of the team-mates.
"It is a shocking experience to go through and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody's well-being.
"The boat itself is under control, but it is certainly not the first of our concerns. We are focused on the people. That is what we are working with and on and we will give you more information when we are able to."

Friends and fellow sailors mourned double Olympic medalist Andrew "Bart" Simpson after the shocking news that he had died in San Francisco Bay while training for the America's Cup.
The British sailor's death followed the capsizing Wednesday of a 72-foot Artemis Racing boat during a training run.
After Simpson, 36, was pulled from the water, attempts were made to revive him on a boat aiding the rescue operation and on land, but they were unsuccessful.
The other 10 crew members were all accounted for, Sweden's Artemis Racing said.
"The entire Artemis Racing team is devastated by what happened," Artemis Racing chief executive Paul Cayard told reporters in Alameda, the city in eastern San Francisco Bay where the team is based.
"Our prayers are with Andrew Simpson's family, his wife and kids, and also the rest of my teammates. It's a shocking experience to go through, and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody's well being."
Cayard said the catamaran was "under control" but that the team's first concern was for its people.
Simpson won a gold medal in sailing's Star class at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and silver at last year's Olympics, when Britain was the host nation.

Olympic sailing champion Andrew 'Bart' Simpson killed in sailing accident aged 36
Andrew "Bart" Simpson, the British Olympic champion sailor, has died after his catamaran capsized off the coast of California.
The popular father of two, who was a member of the Swedish America’s Cup team led by his Olympic teammate Iain Percy became trapped under the hull of the AC72 after it flipped near Treasure Island in San Francisco bay catapaulting all 11 crew members into the water.
Recovery services arrived to rescue the crew but were unable to revive Simpson, despite attempts by an onboard doctor and other doctors ashore.
"It is with immense sadness that Artemis Racing confirms the tragic death of crewmember Andrew 'Bart' Simpson today in San Francisco," said Paul Cayard, the chief executive of the Swedish Artemis Racing team Mr Simpson worked for.
"Simpson...was trapped underneath the boat and despite attempts to revive him, by doctors afloat and subsequently ashore, his life was lost.
“The entire Artemis Racing team is devastated by what happened. Our heartfelt condolences are with Andrew’s wife and family.”
It remains unclear why the racing vessel flipped over but wind conditions were said to be stronger than normal. The bright red boat could yesterday be seen still flipped over in the bay.
An official with the US Coast Guard, told the San Francisco Chronicle that winds in the area were “a little above normal”.
