Facebook is apologizing after featuring a fake, sensational news story about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in its influential “Trending” topics section?. The story, which has since been removed from the list, falsely claimed that the cable channel had fired Kelly for being "a closet liberal who actually wants Hillary to win." The story about Kelly's supposed firing came from the right-wing website End The Fed, which boasts headlines like “What Obama Has to Say About 'White Folks' Will Make Your Blood Boil" and "Eric Bolling Exposes New Dirty Tricks Clintons Used to Escape Jail Time and Become Millionaires." The fact that Facebook was taken in and promoted the fake story was captured by the Independent Journal Review's Justin Green, who tweeted a screenshot of Facebook's Trending list? before it was corrected:

    Megyn Kelly’s ultimate primetime perch on Fox News Channel remains a mystery – at least for now.
    Kelly’s move to primetime has been anticipated since July, when the 21st Century Fox-owned cable-news network announced she would move to an unspecified slot from her daytime roost on “America Live” upon her return from maternity leave. But the network is declining to offer more specific detail, despite a post on Drudge Report stating she will inherit the 9 p.m. slot from Sean Hannity.
    “We will neither confirm nor deny any programming schedule changes. As previously stated, the network has signed long-term deals with Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, Shepard Smith, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren,” the network said in a statement issued by a Fox News representative.
    Until today, speculation had swirled that Kelly might take the 10 p.m. slot on Fox News Channel that is currently occupied by Van Susteren.
    Since February 2010, Kelly has anchored the network’s daytime news program “America Live” while also appearing in a weekly primetime segment on “The O’Reilly Factor” called “The Kelly File.” Last fall, she co-anchored, alongside Baier, Fox News Channel’s 2012 Election Night coverage, which delivered more than 12 million viewers.

He did tease upcoming announcements that not only seemed to impact Kelly and Hannity, but Fox News' beloved daytime and cable primetime host, Shep Smith. While the network's specific plans remain a mystery, one thing is quite clear: the number one cable news network that has not touched its prime time lineup in many years is about to implement some major changes.
