ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ 'നോ ഫ്രണ്ട് ബട്ട് ദ മൗണ്ടന്‍സ്' എന്ന കൃതിക്കാണ് പുരസ്‌കാരം ലഭിച്ചത്. 52 ലക്ഷം രൂപയാണ് സമ്മാനത്തുക.ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിൽ അനധികൃത കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരെ താമസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന 'പാപുവ ന്യൂ ഗുനിയയിലെ മാനുസ് ദ്വീപിലാണ്' ബൂചാനി കഴിഞ്ഞ 6 വര്‍ഷമായി താമസിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനിടയിൽ സുഹൃത്തും പരിഭാഷകനുമായ ഒമിഡ് തൊഫീഗിയന് മൊബൈലില്‍ വാട്‌സ്‌ആപ്പ് ചാറ്റിലൂടെയാണ് ബൂചാനി പുസ്തകം രചിച്ചത്. ആദ്യം വാട്‌സ്‌ആപ്പിലൂടെയായിരുന്നു പുസ്തകരചന പിന്നീട് ദ്വീപിലേക്കുള്ള ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റ് ബന്ധം വിച്ഛേദിച്ചതോടെ ടെക്‌സ്റ്റ് മെസേജാണ് രക്ഷയായത്. ഒടുവില്‍ പുസ്തകം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇവിടത്തെ പാവപ്പെട്ടവരെ വ്യവസ്ഥിതി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യുന്നത് തടയുന്നതിന് ഈ പുരസ്‌കാരം ഒരു കാരണമാകുമെന്ന് കരുതുന്നുവെന്നും . ''ഞങ്ങളുടെ അവസ്ഥ കൂടുതല്‍ ആളുകളിലേക്കെത്തണം, ഈ കിരാതമായ നടപടികള്‍ അവസാനിക്കണം' ബൂച്ചാനി 'ദ ഗാര്‍ഡിയന്‍' പത്രത്തോട് പറഞ്ഞു. പ്രമുഖ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ദിനപത്രമായ 'ദ ഗാര്‍ഡിയന്‍' പത്രത്തിലെ കോളമിസ്റ്റുമാണ് ബൂച്ചാനി.ബൂച്ചാനിയുടെ ഇന്തോനേഷ്യ മുതല്‍ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയ വരെയുള്ള കുടിയേറ്റത്തെക്കുറിച്ചാണ് പുസ്തകത്തില്‍ പറയുന്നത്.കുര്‍ദുകളുടെ അവകാശങ്ങള്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി എഴുതിയതിന് ഇറാനിലെ ഇസ്ലാമിക് റവലുഷനറി ഗാര്‍ഡ്സ് കോര്‍പ്സിന്റെ ആക്രമണം നേരിട്ട ബൂച്ചാനി മൂന്നുമാസം ഒളിവില്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞു. പിന്നീടാണ് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയില്‍ അഭയം തേടി ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ടത്. കടലില്‍ വെച്ച് ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിന്‍ പൊലീസിന്റെ പിടിയിലാകുകയായിരുന്നു.ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിൽ ബോട്ടിൽ കുടിയേറ്റം നടത്തുന്നവർ പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടാൽ ശക്തമായ ശിക്ഷയാണ്‌ നൽകുക. അകലങ്ങളിലുള്ള ദ്വീപിലേക്ക്‌ ഇവരെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി താമസിപ്പിക്കും. പുറംലോകവുമായി ബന്ധമുണ്ടാകില്ല. അവിടെയെന്തായിരിക്കും സംഭവിക്കുക എന്നും ആരും അറിയില്ല.
