നിബന്ധനകൾ പാലിക്കാത്ത വെബ് സൈറ്റുകളെ പൂട്ടി ജി ഡി പി ആർ.വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചയാണ് യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയൻ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച ജനറൽ ടാറ്റ പ്രൊട്ടക്ഷൻ റെഗുലേഷൻ നിലവിൽ വന്നത്. ഇതോടെ ചില പ്രധാന മാധ്യമങ്ങളുടേതടക്കം നിരവധി സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ വെബ്സൈറ്റുകൾ നിശ്ചലമായി .ജി ഡി പി ആർ നിയമം നിലവിൽ വരുന്നതിനു മുന്നോടിയായി നിരവധി സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള അവരുടെ സേവന വ്യവസ്ഥകളിലും പ്രവർത്തന രീതികളിലും മാറ്റം വരുത്തിയിരുന്നു .യൂറോപ്യൻ യൂണിയനിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ആഭ്യന്തര വിദേശ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളെല്ലാം തന്നെ ഈ നിയമത്തിന്റെ പരിധിയിൽ വരുന്നതാണ്. ഇത് പാലിക്കാത്ത അമേരിക്കൻ വെബ്സൈറ്റുകൾക്കാണ് പൂട്ട് വീണത്. ഈ വെബ് സൈറ്റുകളിൽ കയറുമ്പോ; യൂറോപ്യൻ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ ലഭ്യമല്ല എന്ന സന്ദേശമാണ് ലഭിക്കുക. വിവരസംരക്ഷണ രംഗത്തെ വിപ്ലവകരമായ പാതയാണ് ജി ഡി പി ആർ വഴി തുറന്നിരിക്കുന്നത്
