ഇന്ന് ലോക എയ്ഡ്സ് ദിനം. ‘അറിയാം നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥിതി (Know Your Status) എന്നതാണ് ഈ വർഷത്തെ വിഷയം. എയ്ഡ്സ് പകരുന്ന വഴികൾ, പ്രതിരോധ മാർഗങ്ങൾ, ചികിത്സ, എന്നിവയെക്കുറിച്ച് രാജ്യാന്തര തലത്തിൽ അവബോധമുണ്ടാക്കുക, രോഗത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണകൾ നീക്കുക, എയ്ഡ്സ് പോരാട്ടത്തിൽ രാജ്യാന്തര സഹകരണം ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തുക എന്നിവയാണ് ദിനാചരണ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങൾ.എയ്ഡ്സിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ബോധവാനാണ് എന്നതിന്റെ സൂചനയായിട്ടാണ് അന്നേ ദിവസം എല്ലാവരും ചുവന്ന റിബൺ അണിയുന്നത്. എയ്ഡ്സ് രോഗവുമായി ജീവിക്കുന്ന 75 ശതമാനം പേർ മാത്രമാണ് തങ്ങളുടെ രോഗാവസ്ഥയെപ്പറ്റി അറിവുള്ളവർ. ബാക്കി 9.4 ദശലക്ഷം പേർക്ക് തങ്ങൾ എച്ച്ഐവി പോസിറ്റീവ് ആണ് എന്ന കാര്യം അറിയില്ല.കാരണം അവർ പരിശോധന നടത്തിയിട്ടേയില്ല. സുരക്ഷിതമല്ലാത്ത ലൈംഗിക ബന്ധത്തിലൂടെ എയ്ഡ്സ് രോഗം പകരാം. എയ്ഡ്സ് വൈറസുകള്‍ (എച്ച്ഐവി) രക്തത്തില്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ചാൽ ഉടൻ കോശങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ച് അവയുടെ പ്രതിരോധശക്തി നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് എല്ലാ രോഗാണുക്കള്‍ക്കും ശരീരം ഒരാവാസ കേന്ദ്രമായി തീരുന്നു. ഹ്യൂമൺ ഇമ്യൂണോ ഡെഫിഷ്യൻസി വൈറസ് അഥവാ എച്ച് ഐ വി ആണ് എയ്ഡ്സിന് കാരണമായ വൈറസ്.
പേര് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ മനുഷ്യശരീരത്തിലെ പ്രതിരോധശേഷിയെ നശിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് എയ്ഡ്സ് അപകടകരമാകുന്നത്. പ്രതിരോധശേഷി വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന സിഡി-4 കോശങ്ങളെ ആക്രമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് എച്ച്ഐവി വൈറസ് വ്യാപിക്കുന്നത്.
അങ്ങനെ രോഗാണുക്കള്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ച് രോഗസമുച്ചയം ആരോഗ്യത്തെ വളരെ വേഗത്തില്‍ കാര്‍ന്നുതിന്നുന്നു.
രോഗസംക്രമണം പ്രധാനമായി രോഗം ബാധിച്ച ഇണയുമായുള്ള ലൈംഗികബന്ധത്തിലൂടെയും രോഗം ബാധിച്ചവരുടെ രക്തം സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെയും അണുവിമുക്തമാക്കാത്ത സിറിഞ്ചും നീഡിലും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെയുമാണ്. ശരീരത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം കുറയുക,കഠിനമായ വയറിളക്കം, ക്ഷയം, ദീര്‍ഘനാളത്തെ പനി, ശരീരത്തില്‍ തടിപ്പുകള്‍ എന്നിവയാണ് രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍.
