भारत के इतिहास में आज ही के दिन 25 जून 1975 में देशभर में आपातकाल लगाने की घोषणा की गई थी. यह आदेश देश में तात्कालिन प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी की सिफारिश पर दिए गए थे. जिसने कई ऐतिहासिक घटनाओं को जन्म दिया. भारतीय राजनीति के इतिहास में यह सबसे विवादस्पद काल रहा क्योंकि आपातकाल में भारत में चुनाव स्थगित हो गए थे. भारत में 25 जून 1975 से 21 मार्च 1977 तक की 21 महीने की अवधि का आपातकाल था.
