Lok Insaaf party chief and former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains along with four others wanted in a much talked about rape case of a 44-year-old woman on Monday surrendered before a local court.

Around 10.15 am, Bains along with other accused--Paramjit Singh Pamma, Jasbir Kaur, Baljinder Kaur, Pardeep Kumara -aka Gogi Sharma--surrendered before the court of Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Kaur.

Recently, the court had attached the property of Bains. Apart from Bains, the property of Paramjit Singh Pamma situated at Alamgir village was attached.

He was declared a proclaimed offender along with all seven accused on April 12.

His bail plea was also dismissed by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge Rashmi Sharma on the same day. When he did not get any relief from the Supreme Court of India, the local police started raiding the hideouts of all accused.

The FIR was registered against him with the orders of a local court in July 2021. The chargesheet was filed against before the court in December 2021. At that time none of the accused were arrested. The local police had recently arrested his brother Karamjit Singh Bains and one property dealer Sukhchain Singh in this case and they are in judicial custody.

On November 16, 2020, the woman had moved an handwritten application to the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, for registration of an FIR against MLA Bains, Kamaljit Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur alias Bhabhi, Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, Gogi Sharma of Ludhiana. She continuously sat on a dharna for a long period outside the Commissioner of Police office seeking that the FIR was filed.
