    SCET college uses waste to produce biogas

    કચરાને કારણે ગંદકીની સમસ્યા ઉદ્ભવતી હોય છે. ગંદકીના કારણે સ્વાસ્થ્ય પર ઘણી અસર પડતી હોય છે. કેટલીક જગ્યાઓ પર ખાદ્ય અને કોહવાયેલા કચરાના કારણે આસપાસના વિસ્તારમાં મચ્છરનો ઉપદ્રવ પણ વધતો હોય છે અને ઘણા લોકો બીમાર પડતા હોય છે. ત્યારે સુરતમાં આવેલી સાર્વજનિક કૉલેજ ઓફ એન્જિનિયરિંગ એન્ડ ટેકનોલોજી દ્વારા કોલેજની કેન્ટીનમાંથી નીકળતા ખાદ્ય પદાર્થોના વેસ્ટના યોગ્ય નિકાલ માટે કેન્ટીનની બહાર એક બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટ બનાવવામાં આવ્યો છે.
    આ બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટમાંથી કોલેજની કેન્ટીનમાંથી નીકળતા ફૂડ-વેસ્ટમાંથી પ્રતિદિન 2 કલાક ચાલે તેટલો બાયોગેસ ઉત્પન્ન કરવામાં આવે છે. કોલેજમાં બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટ બનવવાની પ્રેરણા કોલેજના પ્રિન્સિપલ દ્વારા મળી હતી. એક દિવસ કોલેજના પ્રિન્સિપલ ડો. વૈશાલી મુંગુરવાડી મોર્નિંગ વોક પર ગયા હતા ત્યારે કચરાની ગાડી રસ્તા પર નીકળતા કચરાના કન્ટેનરમાંથી કચરો રસ્તા પર પડવાથી તેની દુર્ગંધ આસપાસ ફેલાઈ હતી. આ જોઈને તેમને પોતાની કોલેજના ફૂડ-વેસ્ટ વિશે વિચાર કરતા બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટ બનાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. તેથી કોલેજમાં એક બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટ બનવવામાં આવ્યો હતો. પ્લાન્ટમાંથી ગેસ બન્યા બાદ નીકળતા વેસ્ટનો ઉપયોગ કોલેજના બગીચામાં ખાતર તરીકે કરવામાં આવે છે. સુરતની આ કોલેજ પાસેથી પ્રેરણા લઈને અન્ય સંસ્થાઓ પણ કેન્ટીનનાં કચરાનો નિકાલ કરવા માટે બાયોગેસ પ્લાન્ટ બનાવે તો વાતાવરણમાં થતું પ્રદુષણ અને ગંદકી બંને અટકાવી શકાય છે.
    આ કૉલેજમાં કચરાનો પણ થાય છે સદુપયોગ
