    ഗോപുരത്തിന്റെ ചെരിവിന്റെ കാരണത്താൽ 1990 മുതല്‍ 11 വര്‍ഷത്തേക്ക് സന്ദര്‍ശകരെ നിരോധിച്ചിരുന്നു


    ഇറ്റലിയിലെ പിസ എന്ന പ്രവിശ്യയിലുള്ള 'ചരിഞ്ഞ പിസാ ഗോപുരം 'നിവരുന്നു .ഗോപുരം ചെരിയുന്നത് ഇപ്പോള്‍ കുറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് എന്‍ജിനീയര്‍ റോബര്‍ട് സെലയാണ് വ്യക്തമാക്കിയത്. 1173ൽ ആരംഭിച്ച പിസാ ഗോപുരത്തിന്‍റെ നിര്‍മാണം പൂർത്തിയായത് 1372 ലാണ് . 55 .86 മീറ്റർ ഉയരമുള്ള ഗോപുര നിര്‍മാണം പൂര്‍ത്തിയായപ്പോള്‍ രണ്ടു ഡിഗ്രി ചെരിവാണ് ഇതിന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. 1990ല്‍ ഗോപുരത്തിന്‍റെ ചെരിവ് 5.5 ഡിഗ്രിയായി. ഗോപുരത്തിന്റെ ചെരിവിന്റെ കാരണത്താൽ ഇതോടെ 1990 മുതല്‍ 11 വര്‍ഷത്തേക്ക് സന്ദര്‍ശകരെ നിരോധിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഗോപുരം ചെറിയുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണം കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു .1999-2001 കാലഘട്ടത്തില്‍ ചരിയുന്ന ഭാഗത്തെ ഇളക്കമുള്ള മണ്ണ് നീക്കി പകരം കുഴലുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ച്‌ 0.5 ഡിഗ്രി ചെരിവ് കുറയ്ക്കാനുള്ള നിര്‍മാണപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തുകയുണ്ടായി. 2001നു ശേഷം ഗോപുരം 41 സെന്‍റീമീറ്റര്‍ നേരയായിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന് 25 വര്‍ഷമായി ചെരിവ് അളക്കുന്ന പിസ സര്‍വകലാശാലയിലെ നുണ്‍സിയാന്‍റെ സ്ക്വീക്ലിയ പറയുന്നത്.മാർബിൾ ,കല്ല് എന്നിവകൊണ്ടാണ് ഗോപുരം നിർമിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് .നാല് വലിയ ഭൂചലനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പിസാ ഗോപുരം നിലത്ത് വീണില്ലെന്നാണ് റോമ ട്രെ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയിലെ ഗവേഷകരുടെ കണ്ടെത്തൽ . ‘ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഗോപുരം വളരെ മന്ദഗതിയില്‍ നിവര്‍ന്ന് വരുകയാണ്’,ഗോപുരത്തിന്റെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മേല്‍നോട്ടം വഹിക്കുന്ന സര്‍വൈലെന്‍സ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് പറയുന്നു. യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഓഫ് പിസയിലെ ജിയോടെക്നിക്സ് പ്രൊഫസറും സര്‍വൈലെന്‍സ് ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ ഒരു അംഗവുമായ നണ്‍സിയാന്റെ സ്‌ക്യൂഗ്ലിയ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയത്, ‘ബെല്‍ ടവറിന്റെ ഉറപ്പും സ്ഥിരതയും പ്രതീക്ഷച്ചതിനേക്കാള്‍ മികച്ചതാണ്’ എന്നാണ്.800 വര്‍ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചരിത്രം അവകാശപ്പെടാനുള്ള ഗോപുരം ആദ്യമായി 1990-ല്‍ അടച്ചിട്ടു. കാരണം, ഗോപുരം മറിഞ്ഞു വീഴുമെന്ന ഭീതി പടര്‍ന്നതോടെയാണ് അധികൃതര്‍ അടച്ചിട്ടത്. 4.5 മീറ്റര്‍ വരെ ഗോപുരം അന്ന് ചരിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഗോപുരം പൂര്‍വ്വ സ്ഥിതിയിലെത്തിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.പോളണ്ടില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള പ്രൊഫസര്‍ മൈക്കിള്‍ ജാമിയോകോസ്‌കിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര സമിതിയാണ് 1993 മുതല്‍ 2001 വ
