    രണ്ടാഴ്ചയായി കിലോയ അഗ്നിപർവതത്തിൽ നിന്നു തുടരുന്ന ലാവാ പ്രവാഹം നേരത്തേ കെട്ടിക്കിടന്നിരുന്ന ഭൂഗർഭ ലാവയുമായി ചേർന്നാണ് കൂടുതൽ ചൂടേറിയതായി മാറിയത്. ഇതോടൊപ്പം ഇവയുടെ ദ്രവസ്വഭാവവും കൂടി. 1955 മുതൽ ഭൂമിക്കടിയിൽ പുറത്തേക്കു വരാനാകാതെ കെട്ടിക്കിടന്നിരുന്ന ലാവയുമായി പുതുതായി രൂപപ്പെട്ട ലാവ ചേർന്നതാണു പ്രശ്നം രൂക്ഷമാക്കിയത്. പുതിയ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളും ഏറുകയാണ് .മേയ് മൂന്നിന് ആരംഭിച്ച് ഇതുവരെ നാൽപതോളം കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ ലാവാപ്രവാഹത്തിൽ നശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. രണ്ടായിരത്തോളം പേരെയാണു ദ്വീപില്‍ നിന്ന് സുരക്ഷിത സ്ഥാനത്തേക്കു മാറ്റിയത്.ദ്വീപിലെ പ്രധാന ഹൈവേയെയും ലാവാ പ്രവാഹം ബാധിക്കുകയാണെങ്കിൽ കൂടുതൽ പേരെ സുരക്ഷിത സ്ഥാനത്തേക്കു മാറ്റേണ്ടി വരും.

    The blue, teal, and silver booklet was printed in part to celebrate Acton & Dystel’s 15th anniversary, and also to display the breadth and depth of authors the imprint published.
    Other authors featured include Ralph Nader, former Speaker of the House Thomas P. O’Neill, and pop group New Kids on the Block.
