Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri’s social media activities hogged a lot of limelight on Friday (May 20). The former all-rounder took to Twitter and made a spree of posts that went viral in no time. Party was certainly on his mind as Shastri’s dashing pictures gave fashion goals to several youngsters. As he was in a ‘good mood’, the southpaw also conducted a Question/Answer session.
While fans flooded the micro-blogging platform with ‘#AskRavi’ tweets, Shastri only responded to a few of them. One of the netizens asked the veteran to pick between two of the finest Indian batters going around, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Afridi feels that this issue could have been handled in a better way. Afridi added that a cricket board plays the role of a father, and the board (BCCI in this case) communicates with a player regarding the future plans for him.
“This could have been handled in a better way. I always feel that the role of a cricket board is very important; it plays the role of a father. Whatever future plans a selection committee of a board has regarding a player, it communicates those plans to that player, like, ‘Look, we have these plans, what are your plans? We want to do this and as a board, we see benefits from doing this,” said Shahid Afridi as quoted by NDTV.
Shahid Afridi also feels that if the BCCI communicates through the media, then there will be problems. Adding that the board and the players should speak in a face-to-face manner, Afridi concluded by stating that creating issues in the public will not solve the problem.
“If you communicate through the media, then there will be issues. If you sit in front of each other, speak face to face, then I think there can be solutions to problems. If you want to create issues out of something, then that doesn’t solve anything,” concluded Shahid Afridi.
India will begin their South African tour with a three-match Test series, and the first rubber will commence on 26th December 2021 at Centurion.

Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has opened up on Virat Kohli’s attitude amidst reports of a confrontation with him. Recently, there have been certain talks on the captaincy issues wherein Kohli had stated that he wasn’t told by any of the board members to not step down as the T20I skipper.
However, it is to be noted that Ganguly had earlier reckoned that he personally asked Kohli to not give up the role. After the Indian Test skipper opened up on the same in a recent media conference, the cricketing fraternity was left all confused as his statement contradicted what the BCCI President had earlier stated.
Middle-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara reckoned that Team India have the firepower in their bowling department to perform well in the three-match Test series against South Africa. The red-ball matches are scheduled to start on December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
In the last 12 months India have won Tests in Australia and England where their pacers punched above their weights. Pujara, who’s a critical member of the Indian Test team, said that the Indian speedsters have the ammunition and the experience to take 20 wickets of the opposition.

The chaos regarding the contradicting comments between Team India Test skipper Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, have intensified quite a bit over the last few days. Ganguly, also a former Indian skipper, said that he had personally asked the 33-year-old Virat to not step down from captaincy in the T20 format.
However, the Delhi-born Virat was clear cut in saying that he was never asked “not to quit T20 captaincy”. As per reports, the BCCI wasn’t happy with proceedings on Wednesday, December 15. However, the board is also aware that any strong reaction could hamper the morale of the Indian team before the three-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26.
Even as Kohli reached South Africa on Thursday, December 16, Ganguly refrained from making any comments while saying that the BCCI will take the necessary steps.
“No statements, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (the) BCCI,” Ganguly was quoted as saying to the media in his hometown. In the meantime, Kohli has lost captaincy in the ODI format as well.
As per sources, the BCCI office bearers, including Ganguly and Jay Shah, the honorary secretary, took part in a zoom call on Wednesday where it was decided that the board wouldn’t engage in any media interaction before the South Africa tour.
“Expert opinion was taken on how to deal with the sensitive matter as it also involves the respect of a president’s office. The BCCI knows that a Test series is round the corner and any hasty decision or statement from them could affect the morale of the team,” a senior BCCI official told on conditions of anonymity.

As he didn’t agree to do so, the national selectors gave the charge to Rohit as they wanted a common skipper in white-ball cricket. However, Kohli refuted Ganguly’s statement, saying he was informed of the decision just before the Test selection meeting on December 8.
Contradicting statements from Kohli and Ganguly has left the cricket world divided. Speaking of the entire saga, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma said he’s shocked by the controversy. “This is definitely shocking and this is news to me as well that Virat Kohli said something like this in the press conference. What comment should I give, about why it has happened and why such a thing should not have happened,” Rajkumar said.
Rajkumar avoided commenting on whether the decision taken by BCCI officials was correct or not. “I would not like to comment too much on this. I will only want to say that they are the authority and whatever decision they have taken, they would have taken it thoughtfully and my statement about this does not hold any significance, whether they have done right or wrong,” he added .
Opining on the contradicting statements from Kohli and Ganguly, Rajkumar said: “This is something unusual I have heard, I didn’t see Virat’s press conference as well. This communication gap should not have happened.
