Robin Uthappa Opines On The Mastermind Behind Ravindra Jadeja's Retention And More News
The 4 players that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions were Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali. However, Dhoni was not the first retention made by the CSK outfit.
Ravindra Jadeja was picked as the first-choice retention by the ‘Men in Yellow’, and the all-rounder will be paid a sum of INR 16 Crores. On the other hand, CSK skipper Dhoni will draw a salary of INR 12 Crores.
And, Robin Uthappa feels that the decision to retain Jadeja as the first pick would have been made by Dhoni himself. Adding that Dhoni knows the value of Jadeja, Uthappa feels that Jadeja might even replace Dhoni as the captain of the CSK side in the future as well.
“I am sure that is MS Dhoni’s doing itself. He knows the value that Jadeja has to the unit. I think from what I understand, Jadeja might be someone who could end up leading the squad in the future as well when MS Dhoni retires. They have given him the due he deserved,” said Uthappa.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sourav Ganguly, said that India’s tour of South Africa stays on schedule for the time being. The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus has made South Africa a ‘risk country’, but BCCI and Ganguly don’t wish to press the panic button and rather want to take their time before zeroing on in any decision.
Recently, amidst the COVID-19 scare, the BCCI didn’t pull out from India A’s ongoing red-ball matches against South Africa A at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. The upcoming tour is scheduled to get underway on Friday, December 17 with the opening Test at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
“The tour is on as things stand till now. We still have time to decide. The first Test is scheduled for December 17. We will ponder about it,” Ganguly told the reporters.

IPL 2022 is gearing up for a heated cut-throat competition and already the signs are beginning to show with the latest news coming that both PBKS and SRH have lodged verbal complaints to BCCI over player poaching from an IPL team.
The mega auctions will take place ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchises will have to send the list of players that they would like to retain by 30th November 2021.
But then, the question is, is this the last ever mega auction that will take place? Well, a Twitter handle named Shriniwas Rao has stated that the auctions ahead of IPL 2022 might be the last ever-mega auction. After this year, all IPL franchises should create their own ecosystems. The auctions have also been outdated, and gone past their expiry date.
Ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auctions, all the 8 existing IPL franchises can retain a maximum of 4 players. Out of these 4, only 2 can be overseas players. And, 2 new IPL franchises have also been added to the fray for the 15th edition of the IPL.
Ahmedabad and Lucknow are the 2 new cities that have been added, the IPL will be a 10-team tournament from 2022. After the 8 franchises have announced their retentions, all the other players will be thrown into the pool. And from this, the two new IPL franchises can then choose 3 players before the mega auction takes place.
While the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded just over a month ago, preparations for the next season are underway. All the eight existing franchises have been asked to submit the list of retained players by Tuesday (November 30). With the deadline approaching, officials and owners of all sides would be busy finalizing the retention list.
For the unversed, a mega auction will take place ahead of the next season. Hence, many sides are to undergo a revamp. Notably, a franchise can retain a maximum of just four players, out of which only two can be foreigners.By CricTracker | 154 views
