Adoption of Metaverse
The #metaverse has the potential to impact everything from employee engagement to the customer experience, omnichannel sales and marketing, product innovation, and community building. Large technology companies, venture capital, private equity, start-ups, and established brands are seeking to capitalize on the metaverse opportunity. Corporations, venture capital, and private equity have already invested more than $120 billion in the metaverse in the first five months of 2022, more than double the $57 billion invested in all of 2021, a large part of it is driven by Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Activision for $69 billion. However, experts say, Metaverse is a double-edged sword.
With the vast and sophisticated data that will be collected within the metaverse, cybercriminals will be looking for ways to hack and game the system. Prevention of money laundering, microtransactions, intellectual property, and identity theft should be prioritized by financial firms building a metaverse, or offering products and services in one, so users feel safe using this technology. Banks in the country have joined hands to create a new company that will leverage the power of blockchain technology to speed up the processing of Letters of Credit (LCs). The blockchain technology creates a digital ledger by integrating data from across platforms and hardware and enables independent parties, spread across the globe, to share data across the network. Indian Banks' Blockchain Infrastructure Company Private Limited (IBBIC) is a coalition of 15 banks, including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, RBL Bank, SBI and Canara Bank joined to benefit from the transformation. The system will be based on Infosys’ Finacle Connect, a blockchain-based platform that enables digitisation and automation of trade-related finance processes. The move is expected to eliminate paperwork, reduce transaction processing time, and offer a secure environment. Moreover, it could be a boon for medium and small-scale enterprises. The LCs are the letters from a bank that guarantee that a buyer will pay the seller on time, and for the correct amount. Currently, the process of issuing an LC is relatively slow and requires human intervention to prevent frauds, authenticate transactions, and balance the ledger. Using blockchain to issue LCs would potentially solve these issues. Even elemental fraud like the issuance of two LCs on a single invoice can be easily prevented with the help of this blockchain technology.
Organizations are leveraging the blockchain technology to create smart contracts that remove the need for third-party administrators and evaluators. Today's supply chains are globally-dispersed with raw materials being sourced from different locations, each set of the parts being produced and assembled in different locations. Digital payment is the road ahead
A report states, nearly two-third of respondents (63%) agree they have tried a new payment method they would not have tried under normal circumstances, but the pandemic has galvanized people to try flexible new payment options to get what they want, when they want it. With this interest and consumer demand comes a greater expectation for businesses to provide multiple ways to shop and pay. In fact, more than half of consumers say they would avoid businesses that do not accept electronic payments of any kind. Looking to the future, digital currencies, biometrics, contactless and QR codes are trending as emerging payments technologies as people’s comfort with them and understanding of them increases and the use of cash decreases.
In India, payment systems recorded a robust growth of 26.2 % in terms of volume during 2020-21 on top of the expansion of 44.2% in the previous year. In terms of value, the contractionary trend which started in the previous year (-1.2%) got further amplified and witnessed a drop of 13.4%, mainly due to lower growth observed in the large value payment system, i.e, RTGS system and decrease in transactions of paper-based instruments. While UPI has grown by 92% in terms of the value of transactions to Rs 41 lakh crore in 2020-21, compared to the previous year, the value of retail payments transactions grew by 7% to Rs 41 lakh crore in 2020-21. Overall, however, the value of digital payment transactions decreased by 12% to Rs 1,410 lakh crore in 2020-2021 compared to the same period of the previous year.

He talked about several aspects of developments, digital payments, loans, etc. While addressing the gathering, Das said, “To further deepen digital payments and enhance financial inclusion through FinTech, RBI has appointed 5-member committee under the chairmanship of Nandan Nilekani. I have requested the committee to give recommendations in 3 months.”

• On Aadhaar being mandatory: In principle, Aadhaar is voluntary, however if the universe of beneficiaries are required to have Aadhaar to get benefit under a particular welfare scheme, it’s the decision of the organization implementing that scheme. The connotation that it’s mandatory sounds like coming from a ‘Khan market liberal’!
• On Aadhaar for welfare schemes: Any welfare scheme requiring Aadhaar needs to give adequate time to the people to get enrolled in Aadhaar. Nobody should be denied a benefit if they show an alternative identity in the interim.
• On necessity of using biometric: 10 finger prints and IRIS scan of both eyes, called the biometric, was absolutely necessary to establish uniqueness across a billion people. The only purpose of biometric is for authentication of Aadhaar and the biometric data cannot be shared.
• On security of Biometric Data – In reality, the purpose of Biometric is for de-duplication. The law is clear that the Biometric will only be stored and not shared. It is absolutely secured. Not even a single case of data theft has been reported in the last 7 years as there is a whole process by which data is stored and encrypted in a very secured way.By Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi | 1415 views
