Tax compliance
A big challenge faced by organisations includes TDS compliance, a survey said, adding simplifying reporting under tax regulations would make reconciliations quicker and more efficient.
Tax teams at large firms spend 70% of time on average on tax compliance and want cross-utilisation of data collected by government agencies to cut down on reporting requirements, a Deloitte survey on 'Income-tax digitalisation in India' said.
The disproportionate amount of time spent by tax teams on tax compliance, more so in larger organisations, is an area of concern and needs to be addressed by way of discussion between the tax administration and taxpayers,” said the Deloitte survey. Tax teams in large, complex organisations, despite their enhanced use of technology in tax, spend a high proportion (around 70 per cent on average) on tax compliance.

Artificial intelligence to add $500 billion to India’s GDP
It is possible that #artificialintelligence could add significant value to India's GDP by 2025. According to a report by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and consulting firm McKinsey, AI has the potential to add between $350 billion and $500 billion to India's GDP by 2025. This would represent a significant contribution to the country's economy and could help to drive growth and development in a number of industries.
Artificial intelligence is expected to add $967 billion to the #Indianeconomy by 2035, and around $450-500 billion to the nation’s GDP by 2025, accounting for 10 percent of the country’s target of $5 trillion GDP. Meanwhile, AI is expected to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030.
The report suggests that AI could be particularly valuable in industries such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and transportation. For example, AI could be used to improve healthcare outcomes by enabling better disease detection and diagnosis, while in agriculture it could help to increase crop yields and reduce waste.

Experts predicted that with the coming of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, automation and advanced technologies would rapidly displace factory jobs and workers world-wide. When COVID-19 hit, about 1.4 million people lost manufacturing jobs. Although the industry has hired back many workers, hundreds of thousands of positions remain unfilled. Digital collaboration tools are primed to play a critical role in enabling workers to tap into the collective knowledge of the enterprise, solve problems with experts remotely, and turn internet of things data from the shop floor into lasting value. Secondly, the emerging workforce will need to manage Industrial Internet of Things devices, use analytical tools to inform their decisions, and oversee technologically advanced operations—while keeping the lights on and training the next generation.
Factory workers are an integral part of this journey. After all, better enterprise resource planning systems, manufacturing execution systems, computerized maintenance management systems, robots, conveyors, and machinery still require people to make everything run. IDC predicts that by 2022, the economy will remain on its digital destiny with 65% of global GDP digitized, driven by that expected $6.8 trillion of direct Digital Transformation investments for 2020–2023. Products, services, and experiences that are improved through digitally enhanced features and functions are much more desirable to markets and consumers. By 2023, direct digital technology investments are expected to be over 53% of all ICT investments. In contrast, nondigital ICT technology investments are contracting by 1.4% over this same period as more and more companies accelerate their digital transformation capability build outs. Given the country’s rich network connectivity, cost advantage, availability of skilled labour, low climate risk and strong data protection laws, India is well-positioned to serve as a regional Data Centre hub in Asia and likely to attract significant Data Centre investments. We expect demand for Data Centre space requirement to increase by around 15- 18 million sq. ft. across the major cities in the next 4-5 years.

The government released a list of 26 Bills, including the cryptocurrency Bill, to be tabled in the coming winter session of Parliament. There have been widespread speculations of an imminent crypto ban in the Indian crypto circuits and trading circles. There is a high grade of investments that have been in the country into crypto and investment worth hundreds of crores of rupees being driven into the crypto economy by the 15 to 20 million Indian crypto investors. Banning cryptos would not only prove a technological challenge for the government but also mean huge capital funds moving out of the country. A cabinet note says, the government will regulate cryptocurrencies in the country, rather than imposing a ban on their use. The note reportedly states that cryptocurrency will not be recognised as legal currency, and describes the currency as “crypto assets”. These assets will be regulated by India’s market watchdog, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and citizens will be required to declare their assets and refrain from keeping them on exchanges outside the country. Individuals holding crypto will be given time to transfer their assets once the bill becomes law. Failing to transfer within the timeframe will lead to financial penalties.

The Pandora Papers’s 11.9 million records arrived from 14 different offshore services firms in a jumble of files and formats – even ink-on-paper – presenting a massive data-management challenge. It contains a 2.94 terabyte data trove exposes the offshore secrets of wealthy elites from more than 200 countries and territories. These are people who use tax and secrecy havens to buy property and hide assets; many avoid taxes and worse. They include more than 330 politicians and 130 Forbes billionaires, as well as celebrities, fraudsters, drug dealers, royal family members and leaders of religious groups around the world. The task involved three main elements: journalists, technology and time. The investigation is based on a leak of confidential records of 14 offshore service providers that give professional services to wealthy individuals and corporations seeking to incorporate shell companies, trusts, foundations and other entities in low- or no-tax jurisdictions.
As per Deloitte Anti-Money Laundering Preparedness Survey Report 2020, the amount of money laundered in one year is estimated to be between two percent and five percent of global GDP, or from $800 billion to $2 trillion annually. The paper claims how several ultra-rich used trusts as a vehicle for the sole purpose of holding their investments. In India, it is legitimate to set up a trust both in the country and outside. The trust is governed by Indian Trusts Act, which does not see trust per se as a legal entity but does recognise the trustee. It allows trustees to manage and make use of assets for the beneficiaries’ benefits. The rule also allows setting up trust in foreign jurisdiction. Many corporate, large business houses set up trusts for legit purposes and are genuine in nature. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her.
