Indian companies increasing automation budgets
As per the study, 98% of Indian organisations believe automation is helping them address supply chain issues, and 86% of business leaders in India said that automation has helped them better address staffing shortages. Almost 99% surveyed agreed that collaboration between humans and intelligent assistants will play an important part in their future-of-work strategies.
The report further says, the consequences of the pandemic and political-economic volatility have disrupted business operations and hence, it is not surprising that of the 1000 global organisations surveyed more than 90% agreed that automation addresses the impact of supply chain and economic uncertainty.
The report further revealed that actual bot deployments in India surpasses those in the rest of the world, with 67% of companies having already deployed over 300 bots across their enterprise organisation (compared to just 21% in other global markets).
Moreover, the research found that cloud-based automations are becoming vital for future-proofing business transformation strategies, with 93% stating that they have already adopted a cloud-first approach for all new automation initiatives.
To complement, another study conducted by Forrester Consulting and commissioned by Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company also said that Indian companies are using edge solutions, IoT applications, and networks as well as automation and robots to optimize their manufacturing processes and innovation.
In fact, nearly 70% of respondents said they were either piloting or already using cloud-managed networking and security solutions to benefit from improved flexibility, scalability, and defence capabilities. We have been seeing the global shortage of semiconductors, the semiconductor industry found itself in an unaccustomed spotlight. Suddenly everyone was talking about the tiny chips that enable many different car functions, from interior lighting to seat control to blind-spot detection. When some high-tech and consumer-electronics companies began to experience chip shortages or voiced concerns about supply chains, the attention intensified. It’s now clear to all that we are living in a semiconductor world. A report says, there is a huge demand-supply gap, the global smartphone applications processor market grew 23% to $30.8 billion in 2021. But the current chip shortage is unlikely to be resolved in the near future, partly because of the complexities of the semiconductor production process. Typical lead times can exceed four months for products that are already well established in a manufacturing line. Increasing capacity by moving a product to another manufacturing site usually adds another six months (even in existing plants). Switching to a different manufacturer typically adds another year or more because the chip’s design requires alterations to match the specific manufacturing processes of the new partner. And some chips can contain manufacturer-specific intellectual property that may require alterations or licensing.
Sales are jumping as computer chips spread to every part of consumers’ lives, becoming essential components of products from cars to smart devices to clothing. Surging demand during the pandemic also resulted in a shortage. There has been rapid growth of the technology sector, and increased cloud usage, as well as ongoing consolidation in many sub-segments. One consequence is that the semiconductor industry’s profitability has improved significantly relative to other industries, and this trend is expected to continue. The need of the hour is, in case of a breach, organizations should be transparent, reach out to affected users directly and share the scope of the impact of the breach, what actions end users need to take to address the breach impact and what measures the organization has taken/is taking to address current and future incidents. Besides instilling confidence in their end customers for continued business engagement, it would also help restore the damaged trust.

Biometric and facial authentication to curb cyber attacks
Most organizations switched to work from home hastily from last year due to the mayhem caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, often leaving the doors open for malicious elements to come in and infect the corporate resources. Research says nearly 3.1 million external attacks are on cloud user accounts. This data set represents companies in all major industries across the globe, including financial services, healthcare, public sector, education, retail, technology, manufacturing, energy, utilities, legal, real estate, transportation, and business services.
As work from home has increased by 5 times as compared to the pre-Covid days, cyberattacks have also surged by a whopping 300%. In most of the cases, cyberattacks were carried out by stealing user identities or exploiting the poor (or lack of) user authentication mechanisms. A report says, the US government reported a 3000% increase in identity theft attempts due to the Covid situation. The option of Biometrics-based authentication could be the ultimate solution, like usage of facial verification or fingerprint verification, that overcomes the limitations of typical OTP or push notifications-based authentication by essentially providing authentication based on “who you are”. It ensures absolute certainty before granting or denying access as hardly any tampering can be done to ‘Who you are’. However, the best practice would be continuous authentication – The way to go.
