  • Minor girl dies in Golaghat after train hits a passenger vehicle

    The 12067 UP Janasatabdi train struck a Tata Magic passenger car bearing registration number AS 05 C 7850 in Khokonguri at Tengani under Dhansiri Subdivision, on Friday evening, killing a minor girl of eight years old, Railway police said.
    According to the report, the vehicle was traveling over the tracks where no railway crossing was available while the train approached in Tangani area.
    Railway Police sources informed that one person including the driver managed to come out of the vehicle, however, the minor girl couldn't.

    Hojai Police apprehended a suspected cadre of ULFA-I from Lumding Railway Station on Wednesday evening. The apprehended cadre was identified as Manabjyoti Kalita son of Dhiren Kalita of Kaki Rampur. Police also seized one ULFA-I flag which was hoisted at Kaki Kanistha College in Lanka.     The Bodoland University Library Department organized two days long colorful Book Exhibition for the first time for the greater interest of students, professors, research scholars, Ph.D. holders and readers at Bodoland University campus Deborgaon in Kokrajhar district. A total of 15 bookstalls were allotted to booksellers from Delhi, Allahabad, Silchar, Assam, Guwahati and other Bodoland Territorial Council areas. The exhibition was started at 25 and concluded on 26 November. Dr. Sangrang Brahma HoD Librarian of Bodoland University termed that the Bodoland University VC allotted Rs 1 lakh each to 18 departments to purchase departmental essential books so that they can keep in their library without a shortage of books in the university.

  • No shops can sale of tobacco products to minors within 100-yard radius of any educational institutions: Directorate of Health Services

    Welcoming the decision of 'Pan Dukan Bebokhai Sanstha' for stopping the sale of Gutkha & Pan Masala in at least 6000 Pan Shops in Guwahati, Arundhati Deka (Director cum State Nodal Officer), Directorate of Health Services appreciated the step and claimed to be a historical step if they can stick into their pronouncement.
    She also informed that sale of tobacco products to minors and within the 100-yard radius of any educational institutions which has been mandated by Sections 4 and 6 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act (COTPA), 2003.
    Notably, sale of Gutkha & Pan Masala to at least 6000 pan shops in Guwahati has been stopped by 'Pan Dukan Bebokhai Sanstha' from Wednesday onwards.
    Meanwhile, the Food Safety Department in a notification on Wednesday has banned manufacture, storage, sale, transportation, display or distribution of items containing tobacco and other nicotine in the state of Assam for a period of one year under Clause (a) of Sub-Section 2 of Section 30 of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

    Based on a specific input at about 9.30 PM on Tuesday, a search operation was carried out by Joint teams of Forest and Police led by Range Officer Pranjal Baruah, Crime Investigation Range, BNC, Range Officer, Nayan Jyoti Gogoi, Gamiri Range and SI Raju Dowarah, Officer-In-Charge Behali PS with the help of 2nd battalion Assam Forest Protection Force apprehended the following 4 rhino poachers from Botiamari-Rangsali Road while they were coming by a Temp Auto bearing Reg No-AS 12AC 5797 to the hunt Rhinoceros in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.During detection and on further search Ration/Grocery and some other incriminating articles (used in Poaching Rhino) were recovered from their possession. Investigation is on.The arrested accused were identified as Paosanthang Guite alias Thang (Sharp Shooter) 33 years, Babul Das alias Dudu-44 years (veteran and wanted Poacher), Bimal Bania alias Babu-24 years, Sukhdev Mukhiya alias Gulna Bin (veteran and wanted Poacher)-55 years.

  • One arrested in mysterious murder case of 14 year old girl in Lumding

    A new ray of hope comes to light in the murder incident of a Minor Girl murder incident in Lumding who was allegedly killed by a family on October 18, 2019 and thereby cremated the body in Howraghat area.
    A case was registered in connection to the matter earlier by the family members of the deceased girl.
    Notably, the minor girl was working as a maid servant in the resident of one Sadhan Chakraborty.
    As per police report, presently, Sadhan Chakraborty and his family members are absconding.
    However, police recovered two cars, one scooty and one motorcycle during an investigation at the residence of Sadhan Chakraborty on Tuesday and apprehended one person under suspicion.

  • Police arrest 7 dacoits involved in Nagaon Reliance Petrol Pump robbery incident

    Under the supervision of Kaliabor SDPO Mrinmoy Das and Nagaon ASP John Das seven dacoits were arrested from Nagaon's Baharampur on Monday.

    As per police, they were involved in a robbery incident at Kakharigaon Reliance Petrol Pump in Nagaon.

    Police also recovered one 7.65 mm and one .22 mm pistol from the possession of the master mind of the robbery incident identified as Rajiv Bordoloi. Police also recovered one computer set and a CCTV camera from his residence.

    The arrested dacoits were identified as Zakir Sheikh, Minhaz Ahmed, Dipen Bora, Deepjyoti Sarmah, Hemanta Hazarika, Khaninjyoti Hazarika, Rajiv Bordoloi (master mind)

    The Doomdooma Forest Department managed to tranquilize the leopard, the wild animal was caged.

  • Three suspected abductors apprehended near Garo Border

    Based on a joint operation by Assam-Meghalaya Police on Sunday, the team apprehended three suspected abductors who were allegedly involved in abducting Nur Mohammad (25) of Rangapani village near Garo border on October 12 last.
    As per reports, Nur Mohammad headed towards Garo Border with his tempo ML-08-1465 and was abducted by the suspected abductors identified as Salman Sangma, Tanang R Sangma and Sengjing Sangma.
    The suspected abductors demanded cash Rs 5 lakh as ransom from the family members of the victim, later, they released him after receiving an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh.
