Consumer spending on mobile apps
A recent data point shows, the #mobileapp industry is expected to be worth $935 billion by 2023. After years of impressive growth and mobile apps reaching more people than ever, the global app industry saw a downturn in 2022, the first one in the market's history.
The global consumer spending on mobile apps dropped by a massive $3bn last year. Last year, consumers downloaded 255 billion mobile apps to their connected devices, 10% more than in 2021 and up by 82% from 140 billion seen in 2016.
The number of downloads is expected to grow and hit over 262 billion this year. By 2025, this figure is expected to jump to over 300 billion. In 2022, gross consumer mobile app spending amounted to $167 billion, down from $170 billion in 2021.
One possible reason is market saturation. The mobile app market is highly competitive, and there are millions of apps available on app stores. As a result, consumers may be more selective about which apps they choose to spend money on.
Another reason could be subscription fatigue. Many apps offer subscription-based models, which can quickly add up in cost. This may lead to consumers becoming more hesitant to commit to ongoing payments, which could result in a drop in spending on mobile apps.
#Securityconcerns: Some consumers may worry about the security of their personal and financial information when using mobile apps to make purchases. They may be concerned about data breaches or hacking, which could lead to identity theft or financial loss.

Sources reveal that the big tech giants will be integrating #ChatGPT or similar technology into their search products, allowing people to get direct answers or engage in a conversation, rather than merely receiving a list of links after typing in a word or question. Teachers are struggling to stop students using chatbots to write their essays, artists claim they are losing paid work to image-creating AIs and efforts are under way in some places to replace journalists with large language models.
Microsoft’s Bing uses ChatGPT, Google’s AI-powered search engine, Bard and now we are going to witness Baidu’s ERNIE Bot, will be available in March. All three companies are using large language models (LLMs). LLMs create convincing sentences by echoing the statistical patterns of text they encounter in a large database. Open AI has started off as an open-source non-profit, after investment done by Microsoft it’s now closed-source and for-profit.
Chatbots empowered by artificial intelligence can increasingly engage in natural conversations and build relationships with users. The simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions is called #ArtificialIntelligence or AI. As the hype around AI has accelerated, vendors have been scrambling to promote how their products and services use AI. The Growth of Artificial intelligence projects is promising.
Artificial intelligence has been riding the crest of the hype wave, but we don't hear enough about the problems and headaches it brings with it.
A new survey estimates the number of complete or nearly complete AI projects has grown tenfold over the past 12 months. Great news, but that means IT teams are scrambling to keep up. Companies need more people with the right skills to put it all together, and executives and managers must ensure that the AI securely delivers what the business needs.
But the issues are talent shortages, integration challenges, and governance requirements. A recent survey of 700 IT managers and executives published by Juniper Networks finds that building AI solutions in-house brings its own sets of challenges. More than half or 53% of IT leaders surveyed say that the reliability of these in-house AI applications is a top challenge, followed by integration with existing systems i.e., 46%, finding new AI-capable talent is 44%, and development time which is 44%.
IT leaders indicate that the top risks from inadequate oversight of AI are accelerated hacking or what the survey's authors call AI terrorism i.e., 55%. Privacy also ranks as the top concern, cited by 55%. Regulation compliance, which accounted for 49% and loss of human agency i.e., 48%, were also indicated as top risks.
Finding or nurturing the right talent to develop, operate, and leverage AI is an issue challenging many of today's IT leaders.
