  • OTT services may soon get regulated by TRAI

    India is currently the world’s second-largest telecommunications market. As on March 31, 2023, there were 1.172 billion telephone subscribers in the country.

    Over-the-top (OTT) communication services including Whatsapp, Signal, Zoom, Google Meet and Telegram could be "over regulated" with the threat of encryption being compromised, said technology policy experts after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India proposed to regulate such services in its consultation paper released recently.

    Secure access service edge (SASE), a new term in the security landscape, has been gaining immense popularity. Advances in #cloudcomputing technologies are helping in enhancing business productivity and strengthening security network management.

KPMG ranked Bengaluru at eighth position among the top 10 cities. More than 800 industry leaders were surveyed for the report which said 39 per cent believe global 'hub' cities such as London, Singapore, and Tel Aviv will continue to play a vital role, enabling talent to coalesce and collaborate in communities with a solid digital infrastructure.



    The report found that while Covid-19 has rapidly accelerated new ways of working, most of the employers know this and are striving towards flexible work arrangements including permanent hybrid workforce models. As the workforce disperses geographically, new hotbeds of technically skilled workers will emerge. The world's 'technology hubs' are here to stay although they may not be in Silicon Valley. It presents a great opportunity for India – bolstered further by the urbanisation and younger demographic trends of the country as well as the massive jump in venture capital that India has seen in the last three years. The internet and digital technology are the new superhighways of trade. Tech leaders believe the industry's future success will rely on a balance between physical workspace and greater flexibility. At the same time, engineering talent and intellectual property are the lifeblood of the tech industry and retaining top talent is a strategic imperative.

    A question arises: are you ready for this? The rise in remote working and distributed users accessing cloud-hosted applications means that the enterprise perimeter is no longer limited to users within the company site. 52% of the respondents said in a survey that they have deployed Cloud Infrastructure as a Service and 42% said they currently use hybrid cloud. While cloud adoption continues to grow, enterprises have generally struggled to implement and maintain a secure, high-performing WAN that allows for efficient access to cloud-based applications across their user base. If you consider the distributed nature of enterprise applications, and now the increasingly distributed nature of employees working from home, the traditional branch networking method of backhauling traffic (from users and devices) to a centralized location is highly inefficient.

    Secondly, there is an emerging nomenclature, SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) aims to address the need for a centralized, software-defined security architecture when the apps and users are highly distributed. SASE combines the flexibility of SD-WAN with a full suite of virtual security services, all delivered from the cloud. Furthermore, the rise in remote working and distributed users accessing cloud-hosted applications means that the enterprise perimeter is no longer limited to users within the company site. Think about it: if your applications are in the cloud, and the users are at home or at a branch location (spread across the globe), why is your organization’s security set up at the headquarters location? The traditional model is time-consuming with subpar performance and a poor user experience. Secure Access Service Edge, or SASE, aims to address the need for a centralized, software-defined security architecture when the apps and users are highly distributed.
